Wojanów is characterised by its ribbon development along the Bóbr River; to the east, the village borders the Góry Sokole. It also has cultural landmarks from very different periods: a church with Renaissance and Baroque furnishings, a landscaped park at Pałac Wojanów, and a former courthouse inn dating from the 19th century. A green hiking trail also passes through Wojanów. When choosing a holiday destination, you can weigh up whether the deciding factor for your trip is architectural and local history, the landscape, or a hike.

Church and historic architectural styles

The Church of the Assumption of Mary in Wojanów was mentioned in 1318; the presbytery was built at that time. Inside are a Renaissance pulpit and a baptismal font from the early 17th century. Three Baroque altars date from the 18th century. Visitors interested in sacred art will therefore encounter furnishings from several periods, rather than a single, uniform building or stylistic phase. The dates help distinguish the pulpit and baptismal font from the later altars.

The former courthouse inn offers a different perspective on the area’s architectural history. The building dates from the 19th century. Its ground floor combines masonry and timber and is partly built using a post-and-beam construction; above it is a half-timbered upper storey. This description makes the structure of the building clear: masonry and timber meet on the ground floor, while the upper storey is characterised by its half-timbering. As a former courthouse inn, it is part of the historic village landscape; its former function should not be confused with a present-day use.

Pałac Wojanów and its park

Pałac Wojanów is set within a landscaped park designed by Peter Joseph Lenne. According to historical records, the park and palace once offered a picturesque view of the Karkonosze Mountains and the Rudawy Janowickie. This view is preserved as a historical description, not a promise of a view today. The park’s design and the building offer a different way to explore Wojanów than the church’s sacred furnishings or the former inn’s architecture.

For organised groups, Pałac Wojanów offers tours exclusively in the castle courtyard around the fountain. Advance booking is required at least one working day before the visit. If you would like to include such a tour in your trip, this notice period is one of the specific points to bear in mind before your visit.

Hiking trail and choosing where to stay

A green hiking trail runs from Jelenia Góra via Dąbrowice, Wojanów, Góry Sokole and Bolczów to Janowice. This sequence of places shows that Wojanów is part of a longer, described hiking route. The trail offers a different kind of trip from one focused mainly on the church interior, historic architecture or the palace park.

The railway’s history is also part of the village’s past: the Jelenia Góra–Wrocław railway line was routed through Wojanów around 1867 and electrified between 1908 and 1911. These details describe the line’s development in the past. For choosing Wojanów as a holiday destination, the other features of the village offer more specific points of interest: the layout of the buildings along the Bóbr, its eastern boundary with the Góry Sokole, historic buildings and the hiking trail. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Wojanów, consider which of these topics will interest you most during your stay.
