Rivers and the Historic Centre

The historic buildings of Wąsosz stretch for about 450 metres between the Barycz and Orla rivers. A commemorative plaque dated 20 November 1960 marks the 670th anniversary of Wąsosz being granted town rights and the transfer of the castellany from Sądowel to Wąsosz. It thus records two events in the town’s history. The plaque also dates the construction of the ducal castle to the 14th century. It also records visits by Piast dukes from Głogów, Oleśnica and Legnica. The castle park is one of the town’s historic attractions. Together, the plaque, castle park and townhouses offer different ways to explore the town’s history: a recorded memory, a historic site and older buildings in the centre.

The railway water tower was built in 1912 and is located on the grounds of Wąsosz railway station. Only brick walls and a section of water pipe inside the tower remain. The construction date and surviving features complement one another: the year places the tower in time, while the walls and pipe indicate what remains. As a physical trace of the past, it adds another chapter to the town’s history alongside the townhouses and castle park.

On the Barycz and by Bike

The kayaking route on the Barycz starts in Wąsosz, near the amphitheatre, where you can also rent a boat and kayaking equipment.
