Park Kulturowy Miasto Tkaczy was established in 2003 to protect Zgierz’s urban layout from the 1820s, which is unique in Europe. Around 30 weavers’ houses have been preserved within the park. This brings two scales together: the city’s layout and the individual houses that recall Zgierz’s weaving history. Historic buildings are open to visitors and house institutions and associations. The buildings also serve as places of recreation for residents and tourists.
Muzeum Miasta Zgierza is located in Dom pod lwami at ul. gen. J. H. Dąbrowskiego 21. The building was constructed in 1828. The collection comprises around 5,000 items relating to history, archaeology, ethnography, art and numismatics. The items document the past and present of the city of Zgierz and Powiat zgierski.
Park Miejski offers another historical perspective: it was laid out as a promenade garden in 1826. Its origins therefore reflect a different aspect of the city’s history from the weavers’ houses or the city museum’s collection.
Walking and Outdoor Activities
The “Miasto Stuleci” route passes through the oldest part of Zgierz and showcases sites connected with important historical events in the city. The route is estimated to take around three hours on foot, including a museum visit. Another option is the historical walk “Spacer historyczny: Nowa Osada w Zgierzu,” which lets you explore the historic city area independently and at any time. This gives you a choice between a route that includes a planned museum visit and an exploration at your own pace.
There is also a high ropes course in Park Miejski im. Tadeusza Kościuszki in Zgierz. The green course is 122.76 metres long, runs around three metres above the ground and is the easiest option for children. The red course, for advanced users, measures 221.20 metres. The two options therefore differ both in their stated lengths and in their level: the green course is the easiest option for children, while the red course is intended for advanced users.
