Wielenin is described as one of the oldest villages in the Uniejów municipality. In the past, the village belonged to the Archbishops of Gniezno; it was granted its location charter in 1290. For travelers who would like to rent a holiday apartment in Wielenin, this local history provides a tangible cultural point of reference.

History

A major turning point was the campaign of the Teutonic Knights in 1331: Wielenin was severely damaged and plundered. Nearby Uniejów and Spycimierz were also damaged during the same campaign.

The local parish was probably founded in the 14th century; the first written references appear in the following century.

The village’s educational history includes a parish school that had existed in Wielenin since at least the 16th century. Visitation reports from the 17th century mention a school building called “domunculus”.

Surroundings

Wielenin is presented on one of 15 thematic information boards along the “Bulwary Nadwarciańskie Uniejów” educational trail on the Warta promenade. This board provides a specific reference point for locating the village in relation to the trail.

Uniejów is located in the surrounding area of Wielenin.

In the wider regional surroundings of Wielenin are Besiekiery – Ruiny zamku rycerskiego, the Chełmno / Kulmhof extermination camp, and Borysławice.
