The Old Town includes around 100 historic buildings. It also partly includes Krakowskie Przedmieście and Wojska Polskiego Street. The Royal Castle in Piotrków Trybunalski was built by Sigismund I the Old from 1512 to 1519; the commission was given to Master Benedykt of Sandomierz. The history of the fortifications is also tied to the city: construction of the city walls began in the 14th century and, thanks to a foundation by Queen Jadwiga, was completed towards the end of that century. Only three short sections of the former fortifications remain today.

Another Shrine of Our Lady of Piotrków is located in the Bernardine monastery of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The image venerated there was painted in 1625 and has been in the side altar of the Bernardine church ever since. It has played an important role in Piotrków for almost 500 years; among those who prayed before it were King Stephen Báthory, other monarchs, deputies, and senators.

Beer is also part of the city’s history: the oldest surviving written mention of Piotrków Trybunalski beer dates from 1487. At that time, King Casimir IV Jagiellon confirmed the rights of Piotrków merchants. Beer has been brewed in the city since its foundation; for centuries, production there even reached exceptionally large quantities by Polish standards. Muzeum Marcepanów at Rynek Trybunalski 2 offers a hands-on introduction to another culinary tradition: during workshops lasting about an hour, participants make marzipan themselves from natural ingredients. Muzeum Lodów at Rynek Trybunalski 9 offers ice cream workshops. From November to April, admission is reserved for organised groups, according to the stated policy.
