Pajęczno combines a strong Marian heritage with a historic market, limestone houses and the Matusowiec water basin in the Park of the Millennium. A lime tree several centuries old is another distinctive feature of the town. Pajęczno lies on the northern edge of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. For planning a trip, this offers a choice of sacred architectural history, urban spaces and landscape—three different starting points for a stay.

St. Mary's Church and sacred architectural history

The parish Church of Our Lady and St. Leonard is an 18th-century Baroque Marian shrine. Its carved altar contains an image of Our Lady of Grace. The church in Pajęczno soon became a Marian shrine, and many worshippers made pilgrimages to the image of Our Lady of Pajęczno, which was venerated as miraculous. This brings together art-historical and religious aspects in a single building: the altar is a distinctive architectural feature, while the pilgrimage tradition shows the image's significance in religious life. The register of immovable monuments lists the church under number 249, dated 30 August 1967. The parish house of the church in Pajęczno also dates from the 18th century, adding to this picture of sacred architectural history.

Limestone houses and the old market

Several single-storey limestone houses dating from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved around the former market square. They give the square a different architectural character from the Baroque church: here, the focus is on the material, low-rise form and the transition between two centuries. At the same time, the historic market retains elements of the original town plan. The layout has not remained entirely unchanged: an additional street leading from the middle of the southern side of the market has altered it. The coexistence of preserved elements and this change makes the market's structure particularly tangible without reducing it to a single building phase.

Church history in Pajęczno Municipality

The church-history connection continues in Makowiska, within Pajęczno Municipality. The parish Church of St. Bartholomew the Apostle is listed in the monument register there, along with the churchyard enclosure and the church grounds within it. The entry is numbered A/366 and dated 1 December 2017.

Park, water and an old tree

The Park of the Millennium includes the Matusowiec water basin and is listed as one of the distinctive features of Pajęczno Municipality. A lime tree several centuries old stands in Pajęczno; its trunk circumference is 7 m and its height is 8 m. Lake Matusowiec is also in Pajęczno: kayak trips took place there on 8 July 2022. The picture of the town thus extends from a striking individual tree to its connection with the water in 2022.
