Jawczyce: prehistoric traces and manor park

Jawczyce lies at the foot of the 304-metre-high Łysa Góra. The village is marked by traces from very different periods: prehistoric burial mounds, 19th-century farmhouses and a manor house built in 1935. A green cycling route also passes through Jawczyce. Burial mounds from different prehistoric periods
A burial mound at site 1 in Jawczyce dates from the 19th and 18th centuries BC. It is attributed to the late phase of the Mierzanowice culture. A grave with a wooden structure lay beneath the mound. Objects found inside include faience beads and four flint arrowheads.
Another group of prehistoric burial mounds was discovered in 1984 at the foot of Łysa Góra. These mounds are attributed to the Funnelbeaker culture. The largest of the Jawczyce burial mounds is more than 20 metres wide and only 2 metres high. Those interested in history will find two distinct archaeological topics here: the late phase of the Mierzanowice culture and the mounds attributed to the Funnelbeaker culture. The sites also differ in how they bring Jawczyce’s prehistory to life: one finding tells the story through a single grave and its contents, while the other discovery reveals a group of mounds. Together, they offer two perspectives—the specific burial and its grave goods, and the form of a larger group of burial mounds.
Charter, farmhouses and manor house
Jawczyce is mentioned in a charter issued by Bishop Nanker in 1322. Several farmhouses dating from the 19th century have been preserved. The manor house was added later: it was built in 1935 and is surrounded by a 19th-century park.
At the edge of the manor park stands an American beech listed as a natural monument. Its leaves change colour three times over the course of the year: they are green in spring, red in midsummer and golden in autumn. This natural feature complements Jawczyce’s cultural and historical attractions.

Jawczyce lies on the green Biskupice–Biskupice cycling route. The entire route is 23.1 kilometres long, with 470 metres of ascent and 470 metres of descent.
