Czarna Góra is one of the fourteen villages of the Polish Spiš region. The village combines a history dating back to the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries with specific places to explore: two chapels, the wooden Korkosz farmstead, views from Litwinka of four national parks, as well as summer swimming and mountain bike routes. This lets you shape your stay around cultural history, views, water or activity. When looking for a holiday apartment in Czarna Góra, it helps to consider in advance which of these aspects matters most to your trip.

Chapels and farmstead: discover local history

The two chapels differ in how they came to be. In the part of Czarna Góra above the Białka, a chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity was built in 1872. In Budzówka, a roadside chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk was funded after the 1874 flood. One building can therefore be identified by its year of construction and dedication, while the other is also linked to the reason it was funded. The two dates place the buildings at different points in the village’s history.

In the northern part of Czarna Góra, in the Zagóra district, stands the wooden farmstead of the once-wealthy Korkosz family. It houses an ethnographic exhibition about a prosperous Spiš farm from the interwar period. The chapels, with their specific dedications, are thus complemented by an exhibition focused on a farm of that era. Together, these places offer different ways to engage with the history of the village and the Polish Spiš region.

Litwinka and views of four national parks

A change of perspective awaits at Litwinka. From there, you can see Tatra National Park, Babia Góra National Park, Gorce National Park and Pieniny National Park. These four names give the view a specific regional context; unlike the chapels and farmstead, the focus here is on views of several national parks. If you enjoy combining landscapes and cultural history in one trip, you can take these different focuses into account separately when planning.

Summer swimming and mountain bike routes

In summer, people swim in the river, which is described as clean. The longest ski lift in the Bukowina Tatrzańska municipality is also located on the eastern slope of Litwińska Grapa. These two features add a seasonal riverside activity and a notable lift location to the historical attractions.

For mountain bikers, it is worth distinguishing between two route descriptions. The 30 km “Białka – Droga Królewska – Czarna Góra” route passes through Czarna Góra; check current route conditions before setting out. Another route starts in Bukowina Tatrzańska, descends on a paved road to Czarna Góra, continues through Trybsz to Leśnica, then climbs back through the village to Bukowina Tatrzańska. The descriptions offer different planning details: one gives the length and route name, while the other outlines the route through several villages and specifies the paved road.

Would you mainly like to explore the chapels and the Korkosz farmstead, take in the views from Litwinka, or combine your trip with mountain bike tours? If you’re looking for a holiday apartment in Czarna Góra, you can choose one based on the experiences you want to make the focus of your stay. In summer, swimming in the river is another seasonal option.
