A gallery and places of remembrance

“Stara Chałupa” at 32 Gen. Maczek Street is the gallery of Renata and Stanisław Starzec. It is housed in a more than 100-year-old building. Its collection includes old equipment, furniture and tools, including the complete contents of a saddler’s workshop. It also features sculptures by Stanisław Starzec in his own style, as well as paintings by Renata Starzec. The gallery thus brings together craft objects and works by the two artists. The complete workshop furnishings form a distinct focus within the collection.

On Piłsudski Street, a memorial stone marks the site of the former house where Blessed Father Piotr Dańkowski was born. Dańkowski was one of the martyrs of the Second World War. At Na Zakrętach, another memorial stone stands near the place where Germans shot about 70 Jews on 28 August 1942. The two places of remembrance relate to different historical contexts: one commemorates Dańkowski’s birthplace, the other the murder of the Jewish victims.
