The Dunajec and the Landscape
The part of Poprad Landscape Park within Tylmanowa encompasses the eastern slopes of the Pasmo Radziejowej above cultivated fields. Those interested in the landscape will find a tangible connection here between the cultivated land and the wooded slopes. A yellow hiking trail along the Pasmo Radziejowej is one of the recommended routes for experiencing the natural environment of the landscape park.
Buildings and Historical Traces
A charter from 1336 documents the history of settlement in Tylmanowa. Historic buildings include the classical-style Berski manor house, built in 1840, and the Church of St. Nicholas, built between 1757 and 1760. Remains of the park grounds survive at the manor house. It is currently not open to visitors and can only be viewed from the outside. The “Tylmanowskie Wspomnienia” exhibition at the Wiejski Ośrodek Kultury in Tylmanowa features photographs of the manor house’s historic appearance, including its interiors. Check whether the exhibition is available before visiting.
Historic ensembles of wooden buildings survive on the eastern bank of the Dunajec in Tylmanowa, including in the settlements of Króle and Klępy. They form a historic settlement landscape dating from the second half of the 18th century. A footbridge in the centre of the village crosses the Dunajec to the settlements of Wybrańce and Górzany. Engineer Stuczek designed it in 1979; it was built in gratitude to the residents of Tylmanowa for helping him hide during the occupation.
Kalwaria Tylmanowska was established on Basta Hill in the 1980s. Well-preserved remains of Polish trenches from the September Campaign of 1939 can be found in the forest on Wietrznice Hill, above the settlement of Rzeki. The history of work on the river is also part of the local landscape: a binduga—a place for binding and floating timber—stood on the Dunajec near Króle and was in operation for several centuries.
Króle is also home to a farmstead more than 150 years old, preserved in its original condition. The complex includes a house, granary, stable and barn. The farmstead is privately owned and not open to visitors; it can only be viewed from the outside.
