Niedzica combines a castle with water-based excursions, regional culture, and routes for horseback riding and cycling. This lets you shape your stay around a wide range of interests: one day can be devoted to historical heritage, another to a tour or the Zamajerz marina. When choosing a holiday apartment in Niedzica, it is therefore worth first considering which of these experiences you want to define your vacation.

The Castle Grounds and the Culture of the Spisz Region

The museum complex at Niedzica Castle includes the wooden Spichlerz, dating from the 18th century. It is located about 150 meters from the castle and houses an ethnographic exhibition on the culture of the Spisz region. The Spichlerz is open daily from May 1 to September 30, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.; it is closed outside this season. These clearly defined opening hours are a useful point of reference if you would like to plan your museum visit during this period.

Another perspective on regional history awaits at Bacówka Edukacyjna, a small center for environmental and cultural education established in 2019. It presents the history and culture of pastoral farming. On display are authentic tools used in this way of life and to make regional products such as Oscypek and Bundz. The Wozownia in Niedzica-Zamek is dedicated to historical horse-drawn vehicles from 1900 to 1939: its collection includes, among other things, carriages and sleighs. If you prefer to view buildings as models, the Miniature Park features models at a scale of 1:20. The buildings of the Podtatra region represented there include Dunajec, Lubowla, Orawa, Czorsztyn, and Pieniny castles, the Red Monastery, the church in Dębno, and the manor houses of the Tetmajer and Uznański families.

Water Activities and Notable Structures

Kayaks and pedal boats can be rented at the Zamajerz marina. The services also include moorings and yacht and rowboat charters; equipment is available to rent, and sightseeing trips are offered. A special attraction there is the Pumpabike, a hydrofoil on Jezioro Czorsztyńskie. The kayak routes are separate from this: from Polana Sosny in Niedzica, they head upstream on the Dunajec and on the Białka between Jurgów and Czarna Góra. Below the castle is also the landing stage for the Biała Dama, Harnaś, and Dunajec excursion boats.

Another notable structure is the dam in Niedzica. It is Poland’s highest earth dam with a central clay core, standing 56 meters high and measuring 404 meters long. Together with the marina and landing stage, the dam makes water activities and engineering structures part of the many different sides of the town.

Compare Cycling Loops and Horse-Riding Trails

For a cycling tour with a set start and finish point, consider the approximately 40-kilometer loop over the ridge of the Pieniny Spiskie: it starts and ends in Niedzica, follows paved roads, is suitable for any bicycle, and takes about four to five hours. Another loop option is the approximately 38-kilometer route along the Dunajec Gorge. It runs from Niedzica via the Red Monastery in Slovakia, Szczawnica, Krościenko, Grywałd, Krośnica, and Czorsztyn, returning to Niedzica. The 48-kilometer Mała Pętla Zamagurza also starts and ends in Niedzica and passes, among other places, through Kacwin, Wielka Frankowa, Osturnia, Zdziarska Pass, Jurgów, Rzepiska, Łapszanka, and Łapsze Niżne. The stated distances and routes can help you choose a tour based on the length you want and the places along the way.

There are also two horse-riding routes that follow different courses. The 15-kilometer riding trail from Frydman to Niedzica passes through Siodło, the Drożyska Valley, the Baniska clearings, the 725-meter-high Barwinkowa Góra, Cisówka, and Tabor, ending at the castle. The 11-kilometer riding trail from Niedzica to Kacwin runs through the center of Niedzica, past the lower station of the lift at Polana Sosny and the Chapel of St. Rosalia, and on to the Kacwin–Wielka Frankowa border crossing. There is also a cross-country ski trail on the sports field in Niedzica, on Św. Rozalii Street.

When planning your vacation, you can choose between culture, water activities, cycling loops, horse-riding trails, and cross-country skiing, rather than focusing your stay on just one type of excursion.
