Landscapes between wooded slopes and mountain terraces

Deeply cut valleys in the Łopuszna Valley feature elevation differences of 350 to 400 metres. Steep, wooded mountain slopes, clear mountain streams and forest clearings along hiking trails shape the landscape. Well-known clearings on mountain terraces and ridges near Łopuszna include Chłapkowa, Chowańcowa, Srokówka, Wysznia, Jankówki, Cioski and Gawrowa. Their names give you specific points of reference for finding your way around the landscape, while the clearings themselves denote different parts of the mountain scenery.

The Pucołowski Stawek is a distinctive landscape feature. A landslide from the slopes of Wysznia blocked the natural outflow of water, creating the small lake. It is regarded as a geomorphological curiosity and a great rarity in the landscape of the Gorce Mountains. From Pucołowski Stawek, there are far-reaching views over the Nowotarska Basin and the Tatras. A short trail leads there from the scenic Srokówki clearing.

Hiking trails with different destinations

Two hiking trails lead from Łopuszna to Turbacz, the highest peak in the Gorce Mountains. The older Seweryn Goszczyński Trail was already known at the beginning of the previous century. It leads from Łopuszna via Zarębek Niżni and Zarębek Średni, and the Srokówki clearing near Pucołowski Stawek, east of Wysznia (1,103 m), to Kiczora and on via Hala Długa to Turbacz. This lets you plan your hike around a longer route described through several named stops. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

Less experienced mountain hikers can take walking trails from the village centre to Zarębek Wyżni via the Goderman hill (705 m), as well as to Chrobowska Mountain, also known as Gobrowska, and to Koszary Harklowskie. These destinations differ from the hike to Turbacz: you can plan your day around whichever of these place names and trails interest you, without combining all the routes into a single hike.

Wooden buildings and memorabilia

The wooden manor house in Łopuszna is a Polish manor house with log walls that were originally covered with boards. Its architectural features include a porch and a dormer window. The Church of the Holy Trinity is also made of wood: the Gothic church has a choir with a straight-ended apse and an exterior chapel. Its main altar contains a triptych painted on wood dating from the mid-15th century. The central panel depicts the Coronation of the Virgin Mary.

The lower, museum section of the Tischner Memorial Room contains the priest’s memorabilia, favourite objects, manuscripts, books and photographs. Visiting arrangements for the Tischner Memorial Room may change; check them before your visit. The hundred-year-old Klamerus Cottage was relocated from the village centre and furnished with the interior of a peasant house from the early 20th century. The exhibition at the Klamerus House is currently unavailable.
