Reservoir between valley and hills

The Klimkówka Reservoir lies in the village of Klimkówka, in the valley of the Ropa River. It was created in 1994 and is surrounded by the hills of the Beskid Niski. An artificial lake, it is about five kilometres long and up to 400 metres wide. The length is an approximate figure, while the width is a maximum; it can vary depending on the water level. These measurements give an idea of the lake’s scale.

The “Gorlickie Pieniny” nature trail takes a different route: it leads from Łosie through the centre of Klimkówka and onwards to the lake. This gives you a choice between a circular route of approximate length and a route through the village to the lake.

Film history at the reservoir

The film history also gives the reservoir a distinctive cultural connection. It was used for filming “Ogniem i Mieczem” (“With Fire and Sword”), where it represents the Dnieper. A sign on the road to the dam recalls this film shoot with words spoken by the film character Rzędzian. The real reservoir and its role as the Dnieper in the film therefore stand in marked contrast.

It is this shift between the real landscape and its portrayal on film that makes the connection interesting: the reservoir is in Klimkówka, but in the film it takes the role of the Dnieper. The character Rzędzian adds a specific detail to the reminder of the filming.
