Orzechówko – Lake and Historical Traces

Orzechówko brings together a waterscape with traces of a former manor estate and historic buildings. Lake Szczurkowskie lies in the village and covers 25.4 hectares. Other historic buildings add to this picture. The outbuilding by the school at Orzechówko 42 dates from the fourth quarter of the 19th century. The historic school itself dates from the second half of the 19th century. An Evangelical cemetery in the village also dates back to the fourth quarter of the 19th century. A brick inn dates from around 1900. The dates therefore range from the second half of the 19th century to the turn of the 20th century, bringing local history to life through specific buildings and sites.

Another part of the village’s history is the figure of the Virgin Mary, created by Mr Haraszkiewicz around 1920. The figure was destroyed in 1967 and restored in 2002. Its history therefore encompasses its creation, destruction, and subsequent restoration. Together with the buildings and traces of the former manor estate, it adds a distinct, clearly defined historical example to Orzechówko’s cultural story.

A county road connecting Wąbrzeźno and Kowalewo Pomorskie runs through the centre of Orzechówko. It provides a geographical reference point between these two places.
