Alleyways, a lake and a remarkable spring

The “gaskami” connect the market square with two distinctive destinations: the lake and the Warta. These directions alone give the townscape its own character. A promenade runs around Lake Jezioro Miejskie. If you enjoy spending time by the water, you can explore it as an alternative to the alleyways and the town’s tourist trails. The lake is also the setting for Tietza Park. There you will find a wooden sculpture and a stone bearing a portrait based on a surviving photograph.

An unusual stopping point is the “Laufpompa” in Międzychód. It encloses an artesian spring in a decorative cast-iron pump. The water rises from a depth of about 90 metres; the spring has a distinctive smell and healing properties. This feature stands apart from the walking trails and historic sites: the focus here is a single spring, with its distinctive structure and characteristics.

Historic traces in the townscape

At the Church of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Kościół pw. Niepokalanego Serca Najśw. Marii Panny), historic gravestones of townspeople from the 17th and 18th centuries are set into the surrounding wall. The porch also contains the gravestone of Krzysztof Unruh, the town’s owner in the 17th century. These stones bring specific people and periods into focus, complementing the remarkable urban layout of the Old Town. Those interested in local history will find a different perspective here than on a walk focused on water or nature.

The Regional Museum is located at ul. 17 Stycznia 100. Together with the historic gravestones and the Old Town’s layout, it offers another starting point for exploring Międzychód’s cultural history. This lets you tailor your stay to the subjects that matter most to you and your family.

Trails through the town and its surroundings

The “Szlakiem sławnych międzychodzian” tourist route passes through Międzychód. Another tourist trail connects Międzychód with Skwierzyna along the north bank of the Warta and starts at the bridge in Międzychód. For walks in the surrounding area, there is also the red hiking trail: it passes through the nearby “Kolno Międzychodzkie” forest reserve and leads from Międzychód to Kamionna. These trails differ in their described routes and destinations, so you can choose between a route through Międzychód, a trail along the north bank of the Warta, or a hike through the reserve, depending on what you would like to focus on.

The reserve was established in 1959, covers 14.77 ha and lies between Lakes Koleńskie and Kludno in the municipality of Międzychód. It is a short distance east of Międzychód. Its location between two lakes and the route of the red hiking trail make it a distinct nature stop alongside the town’s attractions.
