Discover Żydowo: Church, Manor House and Cycling

Żydowo combines a rich local history with opportunities for active days: a protected historic church, traces of the past by the river and a recreational sports centre each offer something different. Church history and notable cultural objects

The Church of St Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr, is late Neoclassical and is protected as a historic monument. Its construction history extends beyond the present building: the former wooden church burned down in 1811, and the current brick church was built in 1845. This makes it possible to explore the history of the sacred building through two clearly distinct phases.

The church has historic bells dating from 1717 and 1773. They therefore predate the construction of the present church building. Another cultural object is the image of the Gurowska Madonna, dating from the 17th century. The Parish of St Stanislaus describes it as its most valuable cultural object and as miraculous. For visitors interested in religious art and regional traditions, the bells and the image add their own historical connections to the building’s history.

Early traces and a historic manor house

There are also indications of a distant past beyond the history of the church. Traces of Pomeranian culture dating to around 550 BC have been found in Żydowo. The remains of an early medieval fortification are also located on the left bank of the Mała Wrześnica. These two discoveries belong to different periods: the archaeological traces date back to around 550 BC, while the fortification is attributed to the early Middle Ages.

Another historic landmark is the manor house in the landscape park. The building dates from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The park belonging to the manor complex is protected as a historic monument; it was entered in the register under number 2166/A on 13 April 1989. The church cemetery in Żydowo is also protected as a historic monument.

Cycling and recreational sports

The “Rajd rowerowy 3 Maja” cycling rally takes place regularly in Żydowo. In addition, the cycle route network built as part of a project includes a section along Dworcowa Street. These offer cyclists different points of interest: a recurring cycling rally and a named section of the cycle route network.
