Szamocin combines historic traces in its townscape with a walking trail that leads to notable buildings and natural monuments. The lakes surrounding the town also invite visitors to swim and enjoy water sports. When planning a holiday, the first question is therefore what you would like to discover: the town’s history, a route through the town, or time by the water.

Town history in the streetscape

Szamocin developed from a former noble village of medieval origin. Its well-preserved town layout dating from the 18th century gives the town another historical dimension: its development cannot be reduced to a single building or a single era. Various buildings also point to different periods in the town’s history. The half-timbered granary dates from 1845; the clothmakers’ houses, called domki sukienników in Polish, on Hallera Street date back to the 18th or 19th century.

Among the notable buildings are the parish church of pw. NMP Wspomożenia Wiernych, built in 1905, and the former Protestant church of pw. św. Piotra i Pawła, dating from 1877. The different dates of construction and the historical name of the second church are each part of its own history. Another personal connection to the town is the house where Ernst Toller was born. Those interested in local history and architecture will find several different points of interest, rather than just one attraction taking centre stage.

Along the “Urok miasta” walking trail

The “Urok miasta” walking trail is about 3 or 5 km long. It leads to the beginnings of the settlement, notable buildings and cemeteries, charming corners in the eastern part of town, and natural monuments. The two stated route lengths provide a practical way to adapt your walk to your plans for the day. Along the way, the focus is on both historical themes and impressions of the town and its natural surroundings.

Szamocin also lies on national, regional and local tourist routes. This makes the town interesting for travellers who enjoy combining their time with walks and excursions. The walking trail through Szamocin and the various tourist routes offer different starting points for planning: one is described by an approximate length and specific destinations, while the others are classified as national, regional or local.

Lakes, nature and artistic work

The lakes surrounding Szamocin invite visitors to swim and enjoy water sports. If you are particularly interested in water activities, you can take this aspect of the destination into account when deciding whether to visit Szamocin; those who prefer walking through town will find a different focus in “Urok miasta”. Cygańskie Doły is considered one of the most picturesque places in Szamocin and adds a distinctive named location to the town’s natural attractions.

“Stacja Szamocin” is also one of the town’s cultural attractions: the centre is dedicated to artistic work and presentations. This focus differs from the historic buildings and experiences in nature. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider whether you would like to combine your stay mainly with local history, walks, nature and water, or also with artistic work and presentations.

Choose Szamocin as a holiday destination

When looking for a holiday apartment in Szamocin, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip. The historic buildings, walking trail and lakes describe different reasons to discover the town; they do not represent a single type of excursion. You can therefore base your decision to visit Szamocin on whether you are primarily interested in history and architecture, enjoy exploring on foot, or want to plan water activities. The sights and activities are reasons to choose the destination, not statements about the location or amenities of individual accommodation.
