Hægebostad offers many different ways to spend your holiday: views over Eiken and Lake Lygne, trails along the Lygna and across open terrain, swimming spots, and traces of earlier settlement. Landscape, Views and Trails

Hekkfjellhytta is located at Breiaskor on Hekkfjell and offers views over Eiken and Lake Lygne. The cabin has a library and a wood-burning stove. The named viewpoint Stakksteinsliknuten is 625 metres above sea level. It is considered easy to reach; a gravel road leads up from Snartemo. The two viewpoints offer different perspectives: from Hekkfjellhytta, you can see Hekkfjell, Eiken and Lygne, while at Stakksteinsliknuten, the focus is on the summit elevation and the approach from Snartemo.

The hiking area near Skeie also suits holidaymakers looking for an easier route with little climbing. The trails offer lovely views of Lygne and the surrounding mountains. There are swimming spots at Skjekkeland and Furuneset, and the area also has a family-friendly activity trail. This lets you include views, exercise and time by the water in your plans.

Hikes and Historical Traces

The Elvestien runs along the west side of the Lygna between Bautaparken in Snartemo and Birkeland. This well-maintained hiking trail is about six kilometres each way. On the Barnevandrerstien, a 9.8-kilometre section leads from Årlia in Kvinesdal to Snartemo. It crosses open terrain with forests, marshes and beautiful mountain lakes; trail conditions may vary. The distances therefore refer to different sections: the Elvestien distance is given one way, while the Barnevandrerstien distance is for the section described.

On the Rofjell hiking route, you will come across traces of earlier settlement: house foundations, the foundations of a mill house and an old cattle track from the 19th century. The Eiken Sogelag also organizes annual hikes to historical sites in Eiken. If you are interested in history, these trails offer different ways to explore it: the Rofjell route passes visible remains, while the association’s hikes lead to historical sites in Eiken.

The Kollemo circuit is suitable for mountain biking. Near the Lygna, it includes a shelter with a fire pit. This outing combines a cycling loop with a specific place to stop and rest, while the hiking trails at Skeie offer a different focus, with easy routes and swimming spots.

Culture and Places to Visit

The archaeological exhibition “De udødelige” (“The Immortals”), about the Iron Age, is on display at Tingvatn fornminnepark. It focuses in particular on the Migration Period and the ancestors of the Vikings. Check before your visit whether the exhibition is still on display. The park also holds demonstrations and courses in historical crafts; the programme may vary.

Hægebostad Church is a wooden long church built in 1844, with seating for 450. Side extensions give the nave an octagonal shape. This is a distinctive architectural detail to look out for during your visit if you are interested in historic building styles.

The Hægebostad tourist information office is located at Tingvatn Fornminnepark and Visitor Centre. The centre has a museum shop, a café and exhibition rooms featuring art as well as archaeological and cultural history exhibitions. Alongside the tourist information office, you will find several different cultural offerings in one place.
