You can tailor your stay to whether you prefer to spend time outdoors, are interested in a church building or want to explore historic sites.

Hiking Trails Around Hansnes

Several popular destinations for outings lie in the recreational area west of Hansnes. There are also trail registers, shelters, and numerous paths and trails. The trails and other paths in Grønnlia and along the Grågårdselva are used for both short walks in the surrounding area and longer hikes. The area therefore offers a range of options for days when you want to get around on foot.

A good hiking trail east of the Grågårdselva leads from the school to the Lavvo cabin of the Karlsøy Jeger- og Fiskerforening in Hansneslia. There are benches and an outdoor fire pit at the cabin. If you are considering this hike, the cabin is a specific destination along the way; the facilities described there include seating and a fire pit.

Another option is the Hansnes–Grunnfjordbotn hiking route, which is partially groomed in winter.

Ski Trails and Winter Excursions

A floodlit ski trail is located in the recreational area west of Hansnes. Groomed cross-country ski trails lead uphill from the area near Hansnes into the mountains. They provide guidance if you are looking for a ski trail route or a trail towards the mountains.

Ringvassøy Church and Karlsøya

Ringvassøy Church is located in Hansnes on Ringvassøya. The building is a concrete church with 400 seats and was consecrated on 12 June 1977 by Bishop Kristen Kyrre Bremer. The organ also has its own history: a new pipe organ with 13 stops was installed in 1980. Starup & Søn in Copenhagen adapted it to the church building. For visitors interested in church architecture and organs, the church offers several specific features to look out for.

Visitors can walk along a cultural trail, experience a well-preserved historic group of buildings, visit a Stone Age settlement site and see coastal forts from the Second World War. If you would like to include cultural history in your trip as well as hiking, Karlsøya offers several different themes to explore.

Finding Your Way at the Ferry Terminal

There is a municipal park area and a skate park at the Hansnes ferry terminal. A footpath and cycle path lead into the park area, where seating is also available. There is also a tourist information office there, as well as access to water and electricity. These facilities are located in the park area at the ferry terminal, making it a distinct landmark for your stay in Hansnes.

The Hansnes–Vannøy–Karlsøy ferry route is part of the Nord-Troms ferry network. If you are considering Hansnes as a destination, this route is part of the local ferry connections to be aware of.
