Seljord offers a range of reasons to visit: Dyrsku'n brings together agriculture, trade and food, while Bringsåsnuten offers a short walk to a small summit in the centre. There is also a unique day-trip cabin on Eventyrøy and an annual summer exhibition. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Seljord, these experiences can help you decide what to focus on during your stay.

Dyrsku'n: Fair, Market and Food

The Dyrsku'n market is held every September at Dyrskuplassen in Seljord. Running since 1866, Dyrsku'n is Norway's largest trade and agricultural fair. As a meeting place, it puts food and agriculture in the spotlight alongside trade, political debates and talks. Dyrsku'n is therefore more than an opportunity to learn about goods and agriculture: its programme covers different aspects of social and economic life.

Food is also part of the experience. At Dyrsku'n, visitors can learn about cultivation and see how food is produced. They can also sample local food, traditional specialities and other dishes. Those with a particular interest in agriculture, production and local food culture will find a different way to experience Seljord here than on a trip to a summit or an art exhibition.

If you are more interested in exercise, views or culture, Bringsåsnuten, Eventyrøy and Kunstlåven offer other things to explore during your trip. Choosing a holiday apartment therefore begins with deciding which side of the area you would most like to discover.

Short Summit Walk and Outdoor Recreation Area

Bringsåsnuten is a short walk to a small summit in the centre of Seljord and is suitable for all ages. From Bringsåsnuten, there are views of Lake Seljord and the centre of Seljord. This outing combines a walk described as manageable with views of the lake and town. If you would rather take a short walk than focus on a fair or exhibition, Bringsåsnuten offers a way to experience Seljord from above in its own right.

Eventyrøy is a popular sports and outdoor recreation area in Seljord. It is also home to Pumpehuset, the first day-trip cabin in Telemark. The building is housed in a former pump house that has been given a new use. Visitors can read books, light a fire and enjoy food they have brought along; Pumpehuset is free to use. The cabin thus combines a present-day use with the building's former function, without limiting a visit there to any particular activity.

Art, Getting Around and Accommodation

Kunstlåven is run by the Seljord Art Association and holds a summer exhibition every July. Alongside Dyrsku'n and the outdoor activities, the exhibition offers a cultural perspective on the area. The local area around Seljord is also associated with the legend of a large, snake-like creature in Lake Seljord. It was first mentioned in writing in 1750. This is a distinctive historical connection to the area, alongside today's events and places to visit.

Seljord is accessible by public transport. Many attractions, restaurants, shops and places to stay are within walking or cycling distance of one another. This may be an important consideration when choosing where to stay: think about which experiences interest you most and how you would like to get around locally when looking for a holiday apartment.
