Between the sea, lakes, hikes and cultural history, Oksvoll offers a range of ways to spend your holiday. Oksvoll Camping is located right by the sea on the Fosen Peninsula, with natural attractions and historic buildings nearby. The holiday accommodation that suits you depends in part on whether you are mainly planning to enjoy coastal landscapes, activities on the water, hikes or cultural attractions.

Accommodation in Oksvoll

Oksvoll Camping has five cabins or bungalows. Each unit has its own bathroom, kitchen and veranda. The site also has a sanitary building and a covered barbecue area, where you can grill fish you have caught yourself in bad weather. Mannbukta Lodge is a holiday home in Oksvoll with rustic furnishings. It is currently available for rent only on request and by individual agreement.

Sea, islands and lakes

The Froan and Melstein nature reserves lie off the coast of Oksvoll. They are easy to reach by boat in good weather, so weather conditions are a factor when planning a trip there. Froan Nature Reserve is a rugged archipelago with abundant wildlife, numerous seabirds and impressive coastal scenery. Hiking and wildlife-watching tours are among the ways to explore the area.

The small island of Bjørnør lies around 10 kilometres off the coast of Oksvoll. Unspoilt nature and abundant birdlife define this destination, which is suitable for a day trip or a longer hike. Unlike the reserves, which can be reached by boat in good weather, Bjørnør can also be considered as a hiking destination. The nearby lakes Koet and Ryvatnet are inviting places to swim and relax, offering a different kind of day in nature.

Koet: Burial mounds and the Dagsturhytta cabin

Koet is not only a natural area, but also a site with around 500 registered burial mounds dating from the Early Iron Age, approximately 500 BC to 500 AD. The mounds are spread across the landscape. There are benches and several information boards at Koet. For wheelchair users, the route to Koet from Vallersundveien is the most suitable.

The Dagsturhytta cabin at Koet opened in spring 2026. It is intended to be open to everyone, free of charge, around the clock and all year round. Check these access details before your trip. The archaeological landscape and the cabin offer different reasons to include Koet in your plans.

Hikes and a place to take a break

The summit hike to Litlkopparen is well marked, about 2.8 kilometres long and runs through steep terrain. The relatively short distance should not obscure the steepness of the trail; plan your hike according to your own fitness and current trail conditions. There is a car park for the hike west of County Road 721, between Bjugn and Oksvoll, a few hundred metres south of the turn-off to Nes (Korsgat).

Brandvikgårdsmyran also offers a convenient stop in the area: there is a large and a small forest shelter with plenty of seating and a fire pit, as well as a tree swing and a climbing rope. To get there, drive from Botngård towards Oksvoll as far as Ryvatnet; shortly after Koltjønna, turn left and park there. The facilities and amenities here offer a different option from a summit hike, where the focus is mainly on distance and steep terrain.

Church and coastal history

About 8 kilometres away stands the white-painted wooden church Nes kirke, whose origins date back to the 14th century. Around 15 kilometres away are Austrått Fort and Austråttborgen, two destinations with distinct histories. The well-preserved coastal fort dates from the Second World War. Visitors can explore its underground passages, and guided tours offer insights into the fort’s strategic importance. Check tour dates before your visit. Austråttborgen, by contrast, is a medieval manor and one of Norway’s oldest.

If you prefer to fill your days with nature and activity, you can explore lakes, islands and hiking routes; for those interested in culture, the church, fort and manor offer a different focus. You can choose your accommodation in Oksvoll based on the experiences you want to prioritise during your stay.
