Discover Fall: Mølleparken and Fallselva
Accommodation in Fall
Fall brings together two distinct holiday experiences: Mølleparken, with its amenities on the Randsfjord, and the cultural trail along the Fallselva. The park forms the lowest section of the trail. When planning your trip, you can therefore take into account both the bathing area and the river landscape, as well as the history of the region.
Mølleparken: bathing area, boat harbour and lawn
Mølleparken is in Fall, on the Randsfjord. The park has a bathing area, a boat harbour and a lawn. These three features give the place different points of interest: swimming, the presence of the harbour and an open green space. When looking for a holiday rental in Fall, you can consider whether the bathing area and the local attractions at Mølleparken suit the main focus of your stay.
Walking along the Fallselva
According to its route description, the Fallselva cultural trail can be hiked along the entire river or in individual sections. Mølleparken forms the lowest section. Choosing between a longer hike and a shorter stretch is one way to tailor the length of your outing to your day’s plans. As trail conditions can change, it is advisable to check your chosen section before setting out.
The river’s history also gives Fall a special dimension: the Fallselva was the starting point for the significant industrial history of Holmen and Fall. Those interested in how these places developed will find another perspective on the area in the combination of river landscape and industrial history.
Søndre Land: culture and trails across the wider destination
The wider destination of Søndre Land offers additional, distinct cultural and nature-related attractions. Fluberg kirke was inaugurated in 1703 and is the oldest of the five churches in Søndre Land. It is also listed as a protected cultural heritage church. In Hov, Land kunstforening operates the galleries Galleri Grette and Fjøsgalleriet at Grette Gård. The region’s offerings thus range from church and architectural heritage to contemporary exhibition spaces.
The Fallselva cultural trail runs mostly along the river, from the dam at Trevatna to its mouth at the Randsfjorden, by the former Holmen Mølle. Waterfalls, pools and dams shape the river course; the elevation difference is 244 metres. The trail is Søndre Land municipality’s Millennium Site. This also makes it interesting to visitors who want to combine a walk through the landscape with a clearly defined cultural connection.
Hiking, cycling and winter trails
Søndre Land has a network of trails in its rural areas, including marked and unmarked paths as well as old transport routes. The municipality and the volunteer centre are developing handy hiking maps measuring 10 × 20 centimetres; digital versions are available on UT.no. An annual hiking campaign, Aksjon turmål, covers the entire municipality. This gives you a choice between planning your own trip and taking part in a municipality-wide hiking programme.
For cycling, Trevatn rundt is a marked route of approximately 20 kilometres in Søndre Land. In winter, the cross-country skiing areas there offer varied routes: Bergegarda has machine-groomed trails of 0.6, 2 and 3 kilometres, as well as a loop of just over 20 kilometres around Landåsbygda; the 2-kilometre trail is lit. Scheeskroken has lit trails of 1 and 2 kilometres, a ski play area with a grill hut, and a connection to the rest of the trail network on Øståsen. The area is 3.5 kilometres above the centre of Hov, on Skjølaasvegen.
When choosing a holiday rental, you can first decide whether Fall, with Mølleparken and the Fallselva, is your main local focus, or whether you would also like to include Søndre Land’s wider cultural, hiking, cycling and winter activities in your trip planning.
