Stjørdal: City Park, Coast and Trails in the Greenery
Accommodation in Stjørdal
A central city park adjoins a cultural centre in Stjørdal, while Naustberget presents a different scene, with its river, sea and harbour basin. There are also green areas and hiking trails that play a role in different seasons. This variety provides a useful starting point for planning your holiday: would you prefer a stay shaped by culture and urban greenery, the waterfront, or time in the countryside?
Urban Greenery and Culture in the Centre
Kimen Park is Stjørdal’s central city park and extends from the Kimen cultural centre. Its lawns, several play areas and benches, as well as its art, plantings and fountains, show the park’s different sides. It can also host outdoor cultural events, such as concerts associated with the cultural centre. No specific events are guaranteed, but the park does provide a suitable setting for culture in the open air.
Sandskogan offers a different focus: this natural green area lies in the centre and includes many hiking trails, as well as a footpath and cycle path with several rest areas. The continuous green corridor also serves an ecological function, including as a link for pollinating insects. Stjørdal therefore offers both a central park associated with culture and a green area with trails and places to rest, for different ways of enjoying the outdoors.
Naustberget Between the River, Sea and Boathouses
The small recreational area of Naustberget, close to the centre, lies by the river and the sea. Along the coast, rocks and a beach meet the yacht harbour basin, and the waterfront is lively with boats. At the same time, the last remaining boathouses preserve a connection to sea fishing in Stjørdalshalsen. This blend of waterfront scenery and fishing heritage gives Naustberget a distinctive cultural character. If you enjoy combining different experiences during your stay, the area offers a clear contrast to the green trails in town.
Hiking Trails in Different Seasons
Remarka is Stjørdal’s urban forest and offers hiking trails in both summer and winter. Part of the route is lit. When conditions are suitable, the ski trails in Remarka can extend to Stjørdal golf course, the ski cabin in Litjtrøa (Vassbygda), Skjeldstadmark, Forbordsfjellet, Frolfjellet and Forradal. Together, they form a ski trail network several miles in length. The routes and destinations show how far the winter trail network extends beyond a single starting point; the ski trails are explicitly dependent on suitable conditions.
Another trail detail concerns the section from Resve to Hessjøen: it is universally designed. This information applies specifically to this section of the trail. Together with Remarka’s seasonal trails, it provides an additional point of reference when considering different options for days outdoors.
Culture and Getting Around During Your Stay
Kimen kulturhus is a venue in the centre of Stjørdal. Stjørdal station is about a ten-minute walk from the cultural centre. This approximate walking time can help you plan a cultural visit; Kimen Park extends directly from the cultural centre. The two cultural points of interest are thus connected, while the park remains distinct from the venue’s programme of events.
The wider destination of Stjørdal also has its own cultural attractions. Hegra Fortress is a national cultural monument and a symbol of Norwegian resistance. At Stjørdal Museum, the focus is on Martin Moe’s collection of antiques and natural history materials. Leirfall is one of the largest rock art sites in Northern Europe, with almost 1,200 rock carvings featuring a variety of motifs and compositions. These regional examples add to the picture of the area, but should not be confused with Kimen Park, Naustberget or the trails highlighted here.
When choosing a holiday apartment, you can start by considering which experiences you would like to shape your days: culture and urban greenery, the waterfront and boating, or trails through the surrounding countryside. This helps you tailor your search in Stjørdal to your travel group’s interests while keeping the destination’s different aspects in mind.
