Beach and historical trail

The Mosvik Cultural Heritage Trail is a 4.5-kilometre historical walk through Mosvik. It follows the Mossa River, passes Mosvikstranda, runs through the town centre and continues to the Nervika industrial area. It ends at Vinje Bruk and the church. The route brings together different views of the area, from the river and beach to the centre and industrial area.

There are 34 information boards along the trail. An English summary and QR codes for further information supplement the boards. This gives you several ways to explore the history and points of interest along the trail. You can take the stated length of 4.5 kilometres into account when deciding whether to include the historical walk in your plans for the day.

Mosvikstranda is a beach and swimming spot. Water samples show acceptable values. The beach is also a stop on the Mosvik Cultural Heritage Trail. If you choose the trail, Mosvikstranda is one of the places it passes; if you want to focus on swimming, you can treat the beach as a separate part of your Mosvik trip.

School history and crafts at the Mosvik Museum

The Mosvik Museum is housed in the former Grande School. The main building has a 1950s classroom where the film “Skoleminner” is shown. The room and the film offer a glimpse of school life in those decades. In the forge by the museum, a collection of tools belonging to village blacksmith Ole Gjerde complements the story of the school with an insight into traditional crafts.

The museum grounds also include the Kaldalstua activity house. The building was formerly a forester’s residence and is now used as a meeting room and as the base for the Krambua handicraft shop. The museum grounds thus bring together different uses: the former residence, today’s meeting room and the sale of handicrafts. The Mosvik Museum is listed as open on Saturdays from June to August; group visits are possible by arrangement.

The church at Vinje also has a documented building history. An inspection report from 1664 described the former church in Mosvik as a stave church with a shingle roof and porches on both sides. The chancel and eastern part of the nave had been rebuilt in wood in 1652. These details give a stop at Vinje a historical context without implying that the former church is the same building as the present-day church.

From the E6, you can reach Mosvik via Røra in Inderøy and County Road 755. After 25 kilometres, turn off towards the centre of Mosvik.
