Eide: Old Roads, Cultural Heritage and Hiking

In the area around Eide, historic routes, archaeological traces and paths through cultural landscapes come together. The nearby Nørdsjø Route over Kilebrekka is just under 32 km long and passes through Eidså, Fiskå, Sylte and Syvde. Most of it follows quiet asphalt roads; some sections run along busier asphalt roads or gravel tracks. Over Kilebrekka, the route offers beautiful scenery and well-preserved cultural landscapes. When planning your tour, both the distance and the varying road surfaces and traffic levels are relevant factors.

The nearby Hovda rundt cycling route offers a different experience. From Fiskå, the ride passes through a broad, open agricultural landscape to Eidså. Between Fiskå and Koparneset, it mostly follows the old main road between houses; its course largely follows the former shoreline from shortly after the last Ice Age. Transport history and archaeological traces

The road between Eidså and Fiskå was designated a main road and post road in 1825. Archaeological sites from different periods are also located near the destination: excavations at Fiskåholmen uncovered a woman's grave from the Migration Period, dated to around 500–600 AD. At Fiskåosen, postholes from a longhouse were discovered; its age is estimated at 2,000 to 2,300 years. The two finds point to different periods in the past, and the dating of the longhouse is explicitly an estimate.

Nearby Fiskå was once an important trading post and central hub in Vanylven. There are boathouses and old buildings there, many of which have stood for more than 100 years. Its former role in trade and its older buildings offer two different ways to explore the area's history.

Hiking around Eide

The nearby family hike Fiskåbrauta follows gentle terrain up to the summit of Vorakinna. The nearby hiking trail to Vorakinna is reached via the old road towards Eide and Rusta; a sign at the junction shows both names. This gives hikers both a described route to the summit and clear directions at the junction.

More cultural and natural attractions in Vanylven

In the wider destination of Vanylven, St. Jetmund's Church in Åheim is one of Norway's oldest stone churches. Built around 1150, it is used by the local community for services and events. At the Åheimselva river, you can explore the old olivine quarries. The Tusshornet viewpoint offers a view across the entire Vanylvsfjord. Hakalletrappa offers views of the open sea, the Stad peninsula with Vestkapp, and the coastal islands between Runde and Stad.
