Torvik offers two distinct themes to consider when planning a holiday: the bookable farm experience at OPP & UT and a medieval boathouse heritage site. The farm Oppistua Torvik in Surnadal is the starting point for the OPP & UT experience farm. Torvik naustmiljø, meanwhile, is a cultural heritage site made up of boathouses. You can decide whether you would rather make a pre-booked farm visit or the cultural history the focus of your trip.

Pre-booked Farm Visits and Animals

Visits to Oppistua Torvik are available by prior booking. The basic price for a booked visit includes access to all outdoor and indoor areas; you can also meet the farm animals. For families who want to plan this visit as a set part of their itinerary, booking is the most important step before the trip.

Children's birthday parties at OPP & UT can be booked on most days. The farm animals are a required part of the experience. As schedules and program details may change, confirm your preferred date and the arrangements in advance. This lets you fit the farm experience into your travel days without assuming you can visit spontaneously.

An activity calendar from 2024 listed two double kayaks and one single kayak for rent at the Oppistua Torvik visitor farm in Torvika, at NOK 250 per day; life jackets were available. Prices and arrangements may have changed, so confirm the current terms in advance.

Cultural Heritage and Planned Development in Torvik

Torvik naustmiljø is a medieval cultural heritage site made up of boathouses. It is automatically protected and of national importance. Alongside the bookable farm experience, it offers a distinct historical theme: the focus here is on the medieval boathouse heritage and its protected status. This distinction can help you choose a holiday apartment based on which kind of holiday appeals to you more.

There is also a future project to bear in mind: a tourist destination is planned for Torvika, with Ugla sykkelpark as its cornerstone. This is a planned project, not a completed attraction.

More to Explore in the Wider Surnadal Destination

In the wider Surnadal destination, Svinviks arboret offers a botanical experience. The arboretum lies between steep mountains and the Todalsfjord; its collection includes 350 rhododendron species and hundreds of conifer species. There is a café in summer. As this is a seasonal offering, check before your trip whether it will be open during your dates.

Vaulen is a state-protected recreation area in Surnadal. Marked trails lead from the road ends at Krokvatnet or Solåsvatnet to Vaulen, about 4 km away. Renting Vaulen also includes the hire of a canoe and a boat. The wider destination offers different interests to weigh up: the arboretum's botanical collection, or the marked trails and the boat and canoe hire available at Vaulen.

Surnadal's cultural sites also differ in focus. Kallastuå at Telesbøen is an art museum and gallery named after the late visual artist Kalla Skrøvseth. Åsen bygdemuseum is a traditional open-air museum, with buildings from different periods and local history collections. The exhibitions can be visited by prior booking and during events; the grounds are also open at all times when the exhibitions are closed. Check the visiting arrangements for the exhibitions in advance.

Kleiva above Skei was the home of village poet Hans Hyldbakk. Honnstadknyken, also called Knyken, rises to 1,071 metres above sea level in the centre of Surnadal. Todalen is an access point for the route to Trollheimen. These places add literary history, a notable high point and access to the route to Trollheimen to the range of options in the wider destination.
