Korsvoll combines a sandy beach on Edøya with a rich cultural history in the surrounding area. Korsvollstranda is a sandy beach; Edøya also offers places and experiences that span the Viking Age to the present day. When choosing a holiday apartment in Korsvoll, you can therefore consider whether beach days or discoveries around Edøya should shape your holiday.

Korsvollstranda and the parking rules

If you plan to visit Korsvollstranda, make sure to plan your journey and parking in advance. Visitors must park their cars at the Edøy ferry quay or at Gurisentret. The paths down to Korsvollstranda are private; parking on them is not permitted without permission. Check the local signs before setting off. This ensures your arrival is planned around designated parking spaces, without treating private paths as parking areas.

Arriving and finding your way around Edøya

The Edøya ferry quay is an important point of reference: this is where you arrive and where you can also reach the notable site of Edøya, with Edøy gamle kirke and the Kulisteinen. The ferry service 1064 between Edøya and Sandvika has been in effect since 1 March 2025 until further notice. Check current departure times before travelling. For the wider destination of Smøla, fast boats from Trondheim or Kristiansund also arrive on Edøya; from there, two buses continue across Smøla.

At Gurisentret, near the destination, there is a waiting room and toilets for travellers. The waiting room is open daily from 06:00 to 23:00. A pilgrim stamp is available around the clock in the waiting room and toilet area; another is located in a letterbox by the Kulisteinen. The stamps can complement a pilgrimage, while the waiting room is especially useful for finding your way after arriving.

Discover Edøya’s history

Edøya was an important trading centre, military base and cultural centre. A rare ship burial from the pre-Viking Age was also found on the island. Edøy gamle kirke is one of the two oldest stone churches in Nordmøre and probably dates from around 1190. A farmstead there was already known in the Viking Age. These different traces bring together early settlement history, trade and religious heritage in a compact area.

Edøystjerna also offers a tangible glimpse into the archaeological past: the structure is exceptionally well preserved and carefully assembled. Three arms extend from a central point, and it has a diameter of 8 metres. The Kulisteinen and Edøystjerna thus represent different ways of discovering Edøya’s history—through a significant stone and an unusual structure.

Experiences around Gurisentret

Nearby Gurisentret is a regional cultural and coastal pilgrimage centre offering experiences and activities for the whole family. Since 2009, it has hosted the open-air play “Fru Guri av Edøy”; if you plan to attend a performance, check the relevant dates. The coastal pilgrimage centre on Smøla is located at Gurisentret on Edøya. It coordinates the eleven key sites along the Kystpilegrimsleia between Selje in the south and Trondheim in the north, and contributes to the route’s development. The Kystpilegrimsleia is accessible year-round and has the same opening hours as the centre.

The offerings combine culture with other topics: the aquaculture visitor centre features exhibitions and activities about salmon and practical fish farming. An escape room is offered at Edøy gamle kirke. The mobile app experience “Uvirkelig virkelig” takes you on Edøya through a story spanning the end of the Viking Age to the present day, using three-dimensional footage of live actors, photogrammetry and 3D models of cultural heritage sites. For a playful exploration, there is also “Reisen til Edøystjerna”, a mobile outdoor puzzle trail for the whole family. Just outside Gurisentret is a small beach where you can swim or look for crabs.

Smøla as a wider planning option

For a broader regional perspective, Smøla is worth considering in its own right: the island consists of thousands of islets and skerries. Low-lying, marshy areas and an open landscape where sea and sky meet shape its scenery. Smøla is particularly well suited to cycling because of its flat landscape and long roads; there are also 22 marked hiking trails around the island. The number of trails may change, so check current route information. Smøla Kajakk offers paddling courses, kayak rentals and guided paddling tours on Smøla. These regional options complement the beach and cultural themes around Korsvoll without making them features of Korsvoll itself.

Choose your holiday apartment based on which of these holiday themes matter most to you.
