Rindal: Culture, Swimming and Ski Trails
Accommodation in Rindal
In Rindal, cultural history meets active days outdoors: in the town centre, you’ll find a museum site with historic buildings, a gallery in a restored barn and the long church. Igltjønna adds a swimming area, marked hiking trails and a central ski facility. This means you can plan your holiday around a wide range of interests.
Museum, Art and Church History
Rindal ski museum is located in the centre of Rindal. Its grounds include 15 historic buildings that visitors can explore. These include a Trønderlåna, a forge, a threshing barn, a smallholding and a mill. The different types of buildings offer insight into various aspects of life in the past; the museum also features a historic ski exhibition. This brings together a look at life in earlier times and the history of skiing.
Another cultural stop is Dalalåven Atelier at Rindalsvegen 13C. The gallery and shop are housed in a restored old barn in the centre of Rindal. If you enjoy combining art and gallery visits with local history when you travel, these different themes can complement one another as you plan your holiday.
Rindal Church is also in the town centre. The long church was consecrated in 1874. Church records mention Rindal Church as early as 1548–1549; a stave church in Rindal is described in 1589. It is not known which church building was constructed first. Concerts and other cultural events are organised at the church together with Rindal municipality and Arena:kirke. If you would like to combine your visit with a concert, check the specific event dates.
Igltjønna: Swimming, Hiking and Cross-Country Skiing
At Igltjønna in the centre of Rindal, there is a swimming area with a car park, toilets, kiosk, volleyball court, sauna, diving board, diving tower and playground. The range of facilities makes it a versatile place to spend a day by the water. Individual facilities may change, so check the latest information before your trip if needed.
There are also opportunities for ice bathing at the sauna. You can borrow the sauna key free of charge; check the current borrowing arrangements before you arrive. Swimming and ice bathing offer different experiences, while the sauna is another part of what Igltjønna has to offer.
For outdoor activity away from the swimming area, Igltjønna is the starting point for a network of marked hiking trails that can be used year-round. The Igltjønna ski stadium, Rindal IL’s central ski facility, is also located in the centre of Rindal. Groomed trails lead from there to Grønlifeltet and Furuhaugmarka, as well as down to Skogsletta and its floodlit trail. Skogsletta is 11 km away. As trail grooming is seasonal, it’s worth checking the conditions before a day of cross-country skiing.
Activity Week and Accommodation Planning
Småtrolluka is an activity week for girls and boys, focusing on recreational sports, community, play and discovering their own abilities. It has been held since 1985 and takes place in the centre of Rindal during the first week of July. Programme details may vary from year to year; if you would like to plan your trip around it, check the specific dates.
You can also choose a holiday apartment to suit your planned activities: would you like to focus on cultural history and events, are you especially interested in swimming and hiking, or are you planning time on the ski trails? These priorities can help you compare accommodation locations according to your travel plans.
