Around Kjerstad, traces of earlier history meet paths through woodland and cultural landscapes. On Lepsøya, you can explore the historic Prestegarden and the Moenmuseet, discover different eras along the Kulturstien, or focus on Eventyrskogen and Setsdemma. A beach, fishing opportunities, and a shelter add waterside experiences to the choices available.

Prestegarden and life in earlier decades

Prestegarden on Lepsøya has a history dating back to 1589. The Moenmuseet is located in the cellar. It preserves goods from the shop from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s; other insights include, among other things, a cobbler’s workshop. The Moenmuseet is considered unique and authentic. Alongside Prestegarden’s long history, everyday objects also take centre stage—offering a different way to explore the past than following a path through the landscape.

Forest paths and cultural history on foot

The Eventyrskogen trail leads from Prestegarden via Gaukebakken towards Dyringen; a side branch leads down to Setsdemma. The Eventyrskogen forest can also be reached from Prestegarden via a waymarked path.

The Kulturstien på Lepsøya offers a different focus. This historic walking trail runs from Hellevika to Rønstad and includes around 30 cultural monuments and cultural landscapes. Along the way, you can see, among other things, the medieval settlement and the formation of the Caledonian mountain range. The approximate number gives an idea of the range of cultural themes without reducing the trail to a single monument. For your choice, this means that the Kulturstien focuses on history and landscape, while Eventyrskogen, with its named trail points, puts the forest centre stage.

Setsdemma: trail, shelter and water

A level, 600-metre-long path runs around Setsdemma. The path at Setsdemma is waymarked and designated for winter, spring, summer, and autumn. Fishing is also possible at Setsdemma. The shelter there is open to all visitors; facilities on site include a rowing boat, a canoe, a sandbox, and a children’s playground. This means the options here range from a walk along the path to waterside activities and a place to play. These are different reasons to include Setsdemma in your travel plans—whether you are more interested in the path, fishing, or the facilities by the shelter.

Kjerstadsanden is a beach on the way from the ferry terminal to Setsdemma. It is about 1.3 kilometres away. Setsdemma itself is about 2 kilometres from Lepsøya’s ferry terminal. If you would like to include a beach visit in your holiday plans, you can add Kjerstadsanden as a place to stop.

Choosing your accommodation

Near Kjerstad, Lepsøya is connected to the mainland by the 800-metre-long Lepsøybrua. The bridge is part of Nordøyvegen; there is also a road connection to Haramsøya via an underwater tunnel. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Kjerstad, you can start by thinking about which experiences you want to shape your trip: historic trails, woodland walks, Setsdemma, or the beach.
