Discover Hals on Tustna

Hals is a village on the island of Tustna in Aure municipality. A marked trail leads from here to Skarven, and cider tastings and activities are among the offerings at Tustna Ladestasjon. This gives you plenty of ways to enjoy hiking, local culture and food and drink in a compact area.

Hiking destinations on Tustna

A marked trail leads from Hals and Myrvang to the 896-metre-high Skarven. Another nearby hiking trail ends at Inderbergsalen, Tustna’s highest mountain, at 908 metres. The summits are close in height: one trail leads from Hals and Myrvang to Skarven, while the other ends at Tustna’s highest mountain. Conditions on the Skarven trail can vary by season; check them before setting out.

The landscape around Gullsteinsdalen also gives the hiking region its own character. Gullsteinvollen cabin is on Tustna at the end of the valley. From there, views extend west across the sea to Smøla. The alpine peaks of Skarven, Jørgenvågsalen, also known as Jurtind, and Knubben lie around the valley.

The marked Fjordruta offers a longer route. It starts at Kvernberget Airport in Kristiansund; its first section passes through Tustna, Stabblandet, Ertvågsøya and the mainland near Aure before continuing to Trøndelag. The Fjordruta is 260 kilometres long in total, runs east to west through Aure and has five DNT cabins. Cider, café and activities at Tustna Ladestasjon

At a cider tasting at Tustna Ladestasjon, you’ll hear stories about apple harvesting and cider production. The tasting includes three glasses of different ciders or juices, along with local snacks to accompany them. The stories connect the tasting with the themes of growing and production.

On days when the café is open, Ladestasjon serves refreshments and food; check in advance which days these are. From May to November, the venue is available for celebrations, gatherings and events for up to 36 people. Meetings, seminars, courses and conferences are also offered from May to November. After the meal, Tustna Ladestasjon organises activities with small treats, including Music Bingo, quizzes and outdoor games.

Tustna Ladestasjon is also a hammock hotel, where guests can spend the night under the open sky. Guests at the hammock hotel can also try Norwegian craft traditions. This adds an overnight stay and a cultural experience to the hiking and food and drink offerings.

Music history and coastal culture

Hals skolemuseum houses one of at least two psalmodikons preserved in the area. At the beginning of the 20th century, the fiddle was the most widespread instrument in Sålåsundet, as it was elsewhere in Norway; there were also psalmodikon players there. The two instruments thus represent different aspects of local music history.

In the wider destination of Aure, Kråksundet Sjøbruksmuseum presents the fishing history and coastal culture of Nordmøre in an authentic boathouse setting. Its collections document coastal culture and the boat Geitbåten. During the summer season, museum days, gatherings with veteran boats and other events are held on the museum grounds; check the dates before planning your visit.

Aure kyrkje is also a cultural-history landmark in the wider destination of Aure: it is the largest wooden church in Møre og Romsdal county, its altarpiece is dated to 1460, and the church dates from 1924. Stützpunkt Melland was built in the winter of 1943–44 as a coastal fort for the German occupying forces on the outer side of Skardsøya. Today, it is an excursion destination in Aure.
