This gives you the chance to explore not only the landscape, but also the activities and developments that have shaped Vaksdal.

There are several different destinations to choose from for hikes. From Vaksdal, a forest road leads to Bogevatnet; along the way, views open up across the fjord and the town. Another route leads via Tjødnhaugen and Budalen up into the Vaksdal Mountains. If you prefer a quieter walk, you can hike from the centre towards Sædalen and on to Herfindalen. This route is described as suitable for most people. The routes mentioned differ in destination and character, so choose according to whether you would like to visit the lake, head into the mountains or take a quieter route.

Local history and special insights

Vaksdal's working and social history is also evident. Homes for the director, employees and workers were built around Vaksdal Mølle. A park was also created for the workers. These features illustrate the connection between the mill's operations and the way people lived and worked locally at the time. Another historical point of interest is the old Kvernhuset in the park: a visit can include a demonstration of traditional grain milling by arrangement.

Vaksdal Church is a stone long church. It stands southeast of the town centre at the edge of the forest and offers wide views across the fjord towards the island of Osterøy.
