Lindås combines church culture in the village with water-based experiences in the nearby area. The wooden church and its park tell stories of art and local history; Lindåspollane and Lindåsosane are often used for boat trips and paddling excursions. This lets you choose between a stay focused on culture and trips on the water.

Church, Baptismal Font and Sculptures

Lindås kyrkje is a wooden long church dating from 1865. One of its notable features is a soapstone baptismal font, dated to around 1200. The year the church was built and the baptismal font point to different periods: the church dates from the 19th century, while the font is considerably older. Those interested in architectural history and sacred art will find two specific points of interest here, though a visit need not be limited to just one feature.

The park by Lindås kyrkje also has its own cultural significance. It contains sculptures of people who were important to Lindåsbygda. These include the poet Aslaug Låstad Lygre and the artist Katharina Saltnes. Together, the church and park connect architecture with the remembrance of people from local cultural history.

Waterways and Tides in the Surrounding Area

In the area around Lindås, Lindåspollane and Lindåsosane are often used for boat trips and paddling excursions. For the kayak route to Lindåsslusene and Kvalvågnes, good launch points are available at the old Lindås Brygge and at Kvalvågnes on the inner side of Lindåsosane. The easiest access to the lock island is from the inner side of Lindåsosane. These location details help you distinguish between the water destinations and their launch points when planning an outing.

At the locks, the current can reach 6–8 knots. It is calmer about two hours after the high tide shown in the tide table. Between Lindåsosane and the outer Lurefjorden, the ebb and flow of the tide are shifted by about 2.5 hours because there are few narrow sea passages. This time difference applies to a larger area and is distinct from the current at the locks. If you are planning a paddling trip, factor the tide table into your preparations.

The waters inside the Lindås locks also have a remarkable natural history: they are home to a separate herring population, considered to be more than 6,000 years old. The Lurefjorden og Lindåsosane marine protected area covers the fjord and poll complex of Lurefjorden and Lindåsosane in the municipalities of Alver and Austrheim in Vestland county. It covers an area of about 70 km².

Getting Your Bearings and Choosing Where to Stay

Lindås lies on county road 57, which runs across the Lindåshalvøya peninsula. The water route to Lindås passes through Lindåsstraumen, where sea locks regulate the tidal flow into and out of the fjord. The road and water route offer two different ways to navigate the area: the road across the peninsula and the passage through the strait.

Another option for an outing nearby is the Vardebu day-use cabin. From the parking area at Kolås, it is about 400 metres along a good path to the cabin. So, alongside the water destinations, there is also a short, clearly described walk to a day-trip destination; however, the distance alone is not enough to determine how long the walk takes.

When looking for a holiday rental in Lindås, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on: are you mainly interested in exploring the church and local history, or would you like boat trips and paddling in the surrounding area to play a bigger part in your stay? The launch points and destinations mentioned make the water-based options tangible, while the church and sculptures provide the cultural connection to the village. If you are travelling with people who have different interests, you can consider which of these aspects matters most when choosing where to stay.
