Spirejakt and Stangehallen

Ten installations are located in the center of Stange. They are placed on buildings, tree trunks or other features, inviting walkers to seek them out. Spirejakt aims to share knowledge about the local area, cultural heritage and art. For those walking together, it provides a specific goal for a stroll.

Stangehallen has a 200-meter indoor athletics track with banked curves. It is suitable for major sporting events, trade fairs, concerts, conferences, large catered events and other large gatherings. There are dedicated spaces for dance, theater performances and lectures; Stangehallen also has a swimming pool.

Church and architectural heritage

Three kilometers west of the center stands Stange kirke, a stone church dating from around 1250. In Stangebyen, Solbrå on Storgata, Sole and Elstad are among the buildings that define local identity and have historic value. The workers’ housing environment on Hans Sørholtes veg is also considered a valuable area. The proposed plan includes measures to preserve these buildings and this area.

Trails in different seasons

Stange has more than many kilometers of marked hiking trails. In winter, ski trails cross the fields and are groomed by snowmobiles. Grooming conditions vary from winter to winter; if the ski trails are important to your trip, check their current status in advance.

More destinations in Stange municipality

Stange municipality has more than 500 kilometers of marked trails. The Rondanestien passes through the municipality on its route between Oslo and Hjerkinn. The national Pilgrim’s Route, Pilegrimsleden, runs from Oslo to Nidaros, enters Stange municipality at Lysjøen and continues to Stange kirke.

The trails also vary in length and landscape. Ottestadstien is a 16-kilometer trail network that reaches the shore of Lake Mjøsa. Ilsengstiene covers more than 25 kilometers and passes through wetlands with a diverse birdlife. Another natural highlight is the Våletjern Nature Reserve: it protects a naturally nutrient-rich pond, a diverse range of plant and bird life, and a peatland complex. Stange municipality is also home to Tangen Dyrepark, with more than 200 animals representing around 30 Nordic and exotic species. Children can take part in feeding sessions, get close to the animals and learn about them in nature. During the Lemurbesøk activity, visitors can enter the enclosure and see the lemurs Ronja, Luna, Bellatrix, Ginny, Draco and Langballe up close. Swimming is possible in Lake Mjøsa and in smaller lakes and ponds; availability is seasonal.

Getting there and choosing a holiday apartment

Regional trains stop at both Stange Station and Tangen Station. Check the current timetable before you travel. Stange Station is also a stop for cyclists traveling to or returning from the Mjøstråkk cycling route. If you are going to Stange Vestbygd, it is recommended that you first travel through the center of Stange.
