Kleivstua and the History of the Route

Kleivstua stands at the top of Krokkleiva in Krokskogen, 383 metres above sea level, in the municipality of Hole in Buskerud county. It is just over a kilometre from Kongens utsikt. Kleivstua is a conference hotel; its history is also one of the area’s notable stories. After the road over Sollihøgda was completed around 1860, the horse-changing station at Øvre Jonsrud became redundant and closed shortly afterwards. Kleivstua continued to operate as a tourist hotel.

This development shows how the use of these stopping places changed as routes evolved: Øvre Jonsrud lost its former function, while Kleivstua continued to accommodate travellers.
