Fjellstrand: Coastal Paths, Swimming Spots and Views

Fjellstrand offers various ways to enjoy your stay by the water and on the trails: the swimming area has a sandy beach and green spaces, while the Kyststien runs along the shore and through the built-up area. There are also longer hikes, a viewpoint with a special viewing panel, and the nearby Ommen recreation area to the north. Water and Beach in Fjellstrand

The swimming area in Fjellstrand has a bathing platform, a diving tower and a jetty. It also includes a sandy beach and grassy or green areas. This means you will find a range of places both in and beside the water. The facility is run by the local residents’ association. Parking nearby is difficult, so bear this in mind when planning your visit.

Another option by the water is Ommen, a recreation area north of Fjellstrand. It covers 50 decares and has a 400 m-long sandy beach, masonry benches and a barbecue. A steep, 150 m-long path leads there from the Sofienlund car park. From the “Ommen” bus stop in Fjellstrand, it takes about ten minutes to walk to the area. The routes differ: you can take into account either the steep path from the car park or the footpath from the bus stop.

Routes for Different Outings

The Kyststien runs along the shore past Fjellstrand Brygge and continues through the built-up area of Fjellstrand. A longer hike is the Kyststi route from Fagerstrand to Alværn: it is 15.1 km long and is listed as taking five hours to walk. These details give you a specific reference point for planning your day. This is distinct from the Aker Brygge–Fjellstrand–Fagerstrand coastal path on the west side of Nesodden, which is about 10 km long.

The Lysløype Fjellstrand also offers its own choice of routes. Its surface is made of coloured wood chips, and the route branches into options towards Fjell or Granerud. This lets you distinguish between the two directions when finding your way. There is parking for the Lysløype at the Grendehuset in Fjellstrand, as well as a small additional car park at Fjellkrysset. These parking options are for this route and should be distinguished from the limited parking right by the swimming area.

Views and a Light Bite

At the Oleannas utsikt viewpoint near Fjellstrand, there is a viewing panel showing what can be seen on the other side of the Oslofjord. The viewpoint also has information boards and parking. The view across the fjord and the boards offer something different from a beach visit or a walk: you can treat a stop at the viewpoint as a destination in its own right during your stay.

For coffee and a bite to eat, there is Annas Hybel at Fjellstrandveien 1. Together with the paths, swimming area and viewpoint, this gives you a selection of different destinations, each with its own character: water and green spaces, walks, views or a light bite.
