Culture and History

The Het Reghthuys Museum is housed in the former municipal building of Giessenburg. The exhibition extends across three floors and several rooms. Numerous objects from the history of the Giessenstreek region can be seen there. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Het Reghthuys Museum hosts temporary exhibitions three to four times a year. The exhibitions thus combine a permanent presentation with changing content.

The Reformed Church in Giessenburg has a crypt where the lords of Giessenburg are buried. Historical mourning shields can also be viewed there. The church therefore preserves both the burial site and the associated historical shields within its interior.

The Over- en Neder-Slingeland pumping station is located at Postkade 2 in Giessenburg. It has been designated a municipal monument since 17 June 1997. From May to October, the pumping station is open every second Saturday. On these Saturdays, it is open from 10:00 to 16:00. Outside these hours, the pumping station can be accessed by appointment. The regular opening days are therefore limited to a fixed schedule during the months of May to October.

The Giessenlanden War Memorial for Fallen Airmen is a Corten steel sculpture. The sculpture includes metal plaques providing information about the crashed aircraft and their crews. The plaques state the aircraft type, serial number and polder where the crash occurred. The names of the crew members are also included in the information displayed there. The memorial commemorates the crews of six Allied aircraft. These aircraft crashed in the municipality of Giessenlanden during the Second World War.

Graanbuurt is a shopping destination in Giessenburg with historic buildings. These buildings house unique shops. Historic buildings and the various shops are combined there.
