Discover Burgerbrug: Holiday rental, polder history and waterways
Accommodation in Burgerbrug
Burgerbrug combines polder history, village culture and waterways with specific places to include in your travel plans. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Burgerbrug, the village landscape introduces you to the Zijpepolder, regarded as the oldest reclaimed polder in Noord-Holland; the historic village centre is characterised by the old Starre Kroon farmstead.
Churches, tower and village centre
Several buildings give Burgerbrug a distinctive historic character. The Jacob Claessesluis is a monument commemorating the centuries-long conflict between the Zijpepolder and the Hoogheemraadschap van de Uitwaterende Sluizen. The church at Burgerweg 60 in Burgerbrug is a Rijksmonument dating from 1830. Since 1873, the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe Church has had painted stained-glass windows in the choir.
The Herboren Toren is a characteristic village church from the mid-19th century in Burgerbrug and is used as Burgerbrug's social and cultural centre. The historic village centre also includes a small church with small stained-glass windows. For days focused on culture, even a walk therefore takes you through different facets of the village's history.
Windmills and the history of drainage
Zijpe Molen F is located at Grote Sloot 33 in Burgerbrug and had already been built when the polder mill masters were appointed in 1567; this appointment took place during the first embankment of the Zijpe. Molen L-Q drains sections L and Q of the Zijpe and Hazepolder. Molen Zuider-G drains sections Zuider G and Zuider M of the same polder.
The date of Molen Zuider-G is deliberately left open: 1597 or 1598 are considered possible years of construction; the year 1669 shown on the information sign is not ruled out either. It is precisely this combination of a technical polder function and several possible construction dates that makes the windmills interesting historical points of reference.
Garden path and canoe route
At the Worteltuin of Croon en Bergh, a walking path runs around a dry water storage basin. An appointment is required to visit the Worteltuin. The Zijpe canoe route is a 23.5-kilometre circular route along the Noordhollands Kanaal and the Groote Sloot.
Choose your holiday rental in Burgerbrug to suit your travel interests
If your travel group has different preferences, you can clearly focus your choice of holiday rental: on the historic village centre and the windmills, on visiting the garden by appointment, or on the Zijpe canoe route. This allows you to take your preferred mix of culture, landscape and activity into account when planning your trip, without equating the individual attractions or places with one another.
Polder landscape and beach nearby
Characteristic North Holland stolpboerderijen can be found around Burgerbrug. They are known as the „pyramids of the polder“ and complement the picture of the agriculturally shaped surroundings. Petten beach is located about three kilometres from Burgerbrug. This approximate distance adds an additional coastal connection to your plans, while Burgerbrug itself is situated in the Zijpepolder.
Jaarmarkt and carnival throughout the year
Recurring events are part of village life. The Jaarmarkt takes place every summer in Burgerbrug. A large carnival celebration is also held every year. Thus, alongside windmills, churches and the polder landscape, fixed dates in local community life can also play a central role in your travel plans.
