The Uitkijkpunt Gat in de dijk viewpoint is located where the Noorderdijk was blown up during the Second World War, causing the Wieringermeer to flood. At the old dyke, an access path with views of the water and the foundations of a farmhouse at the site of the former dyke breach was planned for this location. At the “Leven van de Wind” visitor farm, visitors can learn about the life and work of a modern farmer in the polder region. Potatoes, onions, wheat and sugar beet were grown at the visitor farm. Its own energy is generated with a wind turbine and solar panels. The Boerderijwinkel Wieringerwerf farm shop sells Beemster cheese, pasture-raised meat and milk from its own cows. Fresh coffee or tea with a slice of apple pie is also available.
Cycling through the Wieringermeer polder
For active days, the “Fietsen over de Wieringermeerpolder” cycling route provides clear guidance: it starts on the outskirts of Wieringerwerf and leads through the Wieringermeer polder to the small villages of Aartswoud, Lambertschaag and Opperdoes.
