History and notable buildings
Oudkarspel is home to the Ned.Hervormde Kerk, with a choir dating from the 15th century. The Regthuis, a Rijksmonument dating from 1808, is also located in the village. A significant part of the Regthuis has been set up as a museum for the Stichting Langedijker Verleden. The restored council chamber in the Regthuis is suitable for wedding ceremonies.
Het Behouden Huis also bears a distinctive historical trace: it was originally built around 1880 as a primary school. The Allemanskerk, also known as the Oude Sint Maartenskerk, was originally dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours. The historic Kerk- en Dergmeer pumping station was used from 1547 to 1970 to drain two polders and reclaim land from the water.
