At Landgoed Hoenderdaell, nature lovers can walk through the 75-hectare nature reserve and its designated quiet area in the Anna Paulowna polder landscape. The estate is an animal park that takes in animals in need, with the aim of eventually returning them to their natural environment. The walking area, quiet area and animal park are separate sections of Hoenderdaell.
In the quiet area, walkers can also encounter the artwork Anna Petruska, the petrified skeleton of a sloop that has stood there since 2010. At Dierenpark Hoenderdaell, visitors can feed lorikeets with special food. The artwork is located in the quiet area, while the lorikeet feeding is part of the animal park.
Flowers, water and animal experiences
Flowers and water add further highlights. Poldertuin introduces visitors to Hollands Kroon’s flower-bulb region. A paddling route for SUP, canoe or kayak runs between Van Ewijcksluis and Anna Paulowna; an accompanying podcast is also available. The two attractions offer different ways to explore: at Poldertuin, the flower-bulb region is the focus, while on the route, the emphasis is on travelling by water. This means that the choice between SUP, canoe and kayak remains open for the paddling route.
A cultural highlight is the Bloemendagen, an annual event in Anna Paulowna and Breezand.
Culture and regional discoveries
Since February 2024, Kerkje Anna Paulowna has once again been used for services of the Protestant Congregation of Anna Paulowna and bears the name “De Samenvaart”. The former steam pumping station was built in 1873 and bears the name of Mayor Wijdenes Spaans. The church and steam pumping station represent different periods in the history of the locality.
In the wider area around Anna Paulowna are Nuwendoorn, a ruin site, and Kasteel Radboud, a castle. Schagen, a castle, and Grote Kerk, a church, are also located in the surroundings of Anna Paulowna. The four destinations offer different historical focuses for planning your excursion.
