Cultural history in the villagescape
A religious and cultural-historical dimension is particularly evident in the Stations of the Cross Park. It was laid out around 1892 on the slope of the Keerderberg in Cadier en Keer. The park includes a Lourdes grotto and a chapel in its immediate surroundings. The park has considerable cultural-historical value as a special expression of a religious development; various objects in the park also have architectural-historical value.
The built heritage also includes the Missiehuis Onze Lieve Vrouw van Lourdes. It was built in 1955 to a functionalist design by the Partners Swinkels - Salemans - Knibbeler - Swinkels architectural firm. Its predecessor, dating from the late 19th century, was largely destroyed by fire in 1954. Next to the newly built church stands the old church tower of Cadier en Keer, preserved as a reminder of the old village. It uses fieldstones, Maas stones and marl blocks; the entrance is framed with Namur stones.
Another detail is the viaduct on Fommestraat in Cadier en Keer. It features a work of art created with the participation of young people and inspired by the municipality's nature and the former tram line.
Wolfskop and the landscape of South Limburg
The Wolfskop walking route passes the impressive chalk cliffs of the Bemelerberg. The flint bank known as “de Wolfskop”, considered one of the largest in Europe, is also located along the route. Wide views across the hilly landscape of South Limburg give this route a scenic dimension. This creates a clear contrast with the built heritage of the village: here, rock, terrain and distant views take center stage.
