Holiday apartment in Opende: Nature, trails and water

Opende combines unusual physical activity with water and landscape experiences. At the Blotevoetenpad Opende, you can walk barefoot through mud, water and grass, climb over tree trunks and cross a ditch using a rope. This unusual course brings exercise and nature directly into your day’s itinerary. The course combines walking, climbing and crossing by rope in a single activity.

The Blotevoetenpad Opende offers a short route of 1.6 km and a long route of 3.4 km. This allows you to choose between a compact and a longer route and fit your visit to the time available. The path is accessible free of charge all year round; it is open between sunrise and sunset. The two routes differ by 1.8 km, allowing you to adjust the scope of your visit precisely. Opening hours are therefore determined by daylight, while year-round accessibility leaves the season open. For your visit, both the route length and the available daylight are therefore relevant.

The Westerkwartierpluspad also passes through Opende. The Pettenpad in Westerkwartier leads through a varied landscape with ponds, peat excavations, rows of trees and open meadows. The Westerkwartierpluspad and the Pettenpad have different routes: one leads through Opende, while the other runs through ponds, peat excavations, rows of trees and open meadows.

Water and regional orientation

Zwempark Strandheem is located directly on the A7. The navigation address is Parkweg 5, Opende. Zwempark Strandheem is an officially recognised bathing water site. The long-term average bathing water quality is “excellent”. Thus, mud and water on the course are complemented by officially recognised bathing water.

The Hervormde Kerk Opende is part of the village landscape. It stands on a raised churchyard; an access avenue lined with chestnut trees runs between the Provincialeweg and the church. The elevated location and the tree-lined access road give this site a clearly defined architectural setting.

An open day was announced at the BaronTheater Opende for a Friday, 18 September. Visitors could tour the theatre on that day.
