Teroele is a waterside village on the eastern shore of Lake Koevorder Meer, situated in a low-lying landscape on Lake De Kûfurd. Several clearly recognisable themes come together here when planning your holiday: water, a 14 km hiking route and historic features of the village. When choosing a holiday home in Teroele, you can decide early on whether the focus of your days should be on scenery, activity or culture.

Holiday home in Teroele between the lake and hiking route

The 14 km “Wandelrondje Langweer - Teroele - Sint Nicolaasga” hiking route passes through Teroele. Families and other travel groups can take the route into account as a fixed planning factor and adjust the desired rhythm of their holiday days accordingly.

De Kûfurd is a lake on the border between Súdwest-Fryslân and De Fryske Marren. The Prinses Margrietkanaal runs through the lake. At the same time, De Kûfurd is heavily used by boat traffic. Its waterside location is therefore characterised not only by its scenery but also by a notably busy surrounding environment.

The Klokkenstoel Teroele by the water

The Klokkenstoel Teroele stands on a small terp surrounded by a canal and is located in a small cemetery on the shore of Lake De Kûfurd. The bell of the Klokkenstoel dates from 1614. The most recent renovation was completed in 2020. This means that the site combines a distinctive location with tangible historical dates, without restricting the visit to a single experience.

The Klokkenstoel Teroele has been documented since 1600; 1723 is also considered a possible year of construction. A map of Doniawerstal from 1718 shows a small group of farmhouses in Teroele with a church at its centre. At the beginning of the 18th century, Teroele still had a church, which was later demolished. The farmhouses were accessed via Aufvaarten, navigable access waterways. These historical references show how closely village life was connected to waterways and the settlement structure of the time.
