Holiday apartment in Bantega: Between Peatland and Cycle Routes
Accommodation in Bantega
A holiday apartment in Bantega takes you to a regional village that originated through peat extraction and developed because of it. The “old land” surrounds the village: drained areas emerged after peat extraction and form a varied landscape with water, meadows, rows of trees, reed beds and villages. This combination of landscape history and varied surroundings gives Bantega a clear profile for planning your trip. Peat extraction is therefore part both of the region's village formation and of the later landscape with drained areas.

Events with Different Rhythms
The events also add distinctive highlights. Autocross Bantega takes place every year on the last Saturday of the Dutch construction holidays. For several years now, an Iepenloftspul performance has taken place in Bantega every three years. The annual date and the three-year cycle create different priorities when planning the timing of a stay. For a trip connected with events, the intervals between the two dates must therefore be taken into account.
Peatland and Echtenpolder
The historic surroundings of Bantega consisted of sand ridges formed by the sea, as well as peatlands and marshes. Around 1859, the area around Bantega was enclosed by dikes; this marked the beginning of the creation of the Echtenpolder. The areas drained after peat extraction, with water, meadows, rows of trees, reed beds and villages, surround the village. Natural sand ridges, peatlands and marshes contrast with the areas altered by peat extraction and the construction of dikes.
A Look Far Back
An archaeological find indicates that three hunters had a camp at the site of present-day Bantega between 8000 and 4000 BC. This dating predates the later development through peat extraction, the construction of dikes and village development. The history of the site thus extends from a very early campsite to the creation of today's regional village.
Cycle Routes and Outdoor Activities
The “Rondje Bantega” route is a 38 km cycle route. The “Cycling between Tsjonger and Tsjûkemar” cycle route also passes through Bantega. IJsclub De Polder in Bantega organizes inline skating and mountain biking tours throughout the year. The route length provides a specific framework for a cycling excursion, while the different types of activity allow for a different day's itinerary than a purely cycling tour. The 38 km form a fixed route framework; inline skating and mountain biking are separate types of tour alongside it.
History at Bantega Cemetery
An information box has been set up for Bantega Cemetery. It contains folders about interesting graves and grave markers. The cemetery's green mortuary has a timeline showing the history of the cemetery. The folders concern individual graves and grave markers, while the timeline covers the history of the cemetery.
