Church and buildings in Oudwoude
The Hervormde Kerk Oudwoude is a 15th-century church with a small bell tower.
In 2026, the Hervormde Kerk Oudwoude will participate in Tsjerkepaad. On 4 and 18 July, 1, 15 and 29 August, and 12 September, the church will be open from 13:30 to 17:00 each time. The six dates are spread across July, August and September, each covering a three-and-a-half-hour time slot.
Several buildings stand along Foarwei. The three addresses, 38, 42 and 48, belong to different periods and forms of construction along the same road.
The vicarage at Foarwei 38 was built in 1806. Its entrance area, dating from 1906, has features of restrained Art Nouveau; the house and entrance therefore originate from two different building phases.
The community building at Foarwei 42 was built around 1900 as a service building for the Reformed church of Oudwoude. Its original function is directly connected with the ecclesiastical surroundings.
Foarwei 48 is a Kop-Hals-Rump farmhouse with mullioned windows and shutters.
Artuin: Garden and Studio Throughout the Year
At Artuin, visitors are welcome in the garden and studio by appointment or spontaneously. The church therefore has fixed afternoons, while Artuin allows visits by appointment or spontaneously.
Artuin's garden surrounds a characteristic Kop-Hals-Rump farmhouse dating from 1763.
The bulbs bloom in April, the fruit trees in May, and the roses are in full bloom in June. Anyone wishing to visit Artuin during a specific flowering period can schedule their visit in one of these three months.
For a visit to Artuin, you can deliberately choose the flowering month: April for bulbs, May for fruit trees or June for roses.
Allemastate and Paths Through the Landscape
Allemastate stands on slightly elevated ground that was originally surrounded by a double moat.
Allemastate is not open to the public; an old farmhouse can be seen from the road.
The Swalk-rûtes include a walking trail through Oudwoude and the surrounding area. The trail leads from the village into the countryside and thus offers a connection of its own to the rural paths around Oudwoude.
The Buitenpost–Oudwoude–Kollum circular walking route passes the church in Oudwoude. It then continues along green rural paths to Kollum.
Those travelling on foot can choose between a path through Oudwoude and the surrounding area and a circular route connecting via Kollum.
