Holiday apartment in Terherne: island in the Sneekermeer
Accommodation in Terherne
Terherne is situated on an island in the Sneekermeer and combines a village shaped by the water with paths across the island. Terherne offers extensive water sports opportunities, including sailing and canoeing. Terherne has waterside paths, island paths and a harbour. The waterside and island paths invite you to explore on foot, while the stretches of water provide the setting for water sports. The waterside location and the paths across the island can be combined during a stay.

Water landscape, harbour and Sneekweek
On the other side of Terherne lie the Terhernster Poelen, while the Sneekermeer is on the opposite side. The Sneekweek sailing competitions take place on the Sneekermeer every year. The water is also ever-present on land: in Terherne, you can stroll along the characteristic houses in the harbour. The walk along the harbour focuses attention on the houses and brings the waterside setting into the built-up village area.
Walking trails across the island and through the surrounding area
The Dorpswandeling Terherne starts at TOP Terherne, where parking is available. Its route leads across Terherne island, which is also known as Kameleondorp.
The Sneekermeerzicht walking route offers a different perspective on the landscape. It leads from Terherne along the shore of the Sneekermeer and through Frisian villages. It also passes through meadows to Terkaple and then heads back towards Terherne. Terkaple is therefore not a final destination, but lies along the section that leads back towards Terherne. As a result, the route includes villages and meadows as well as the shore. The Dorpswandeling, by contrast, stays on Terherne island, while the Sneekermeerzicht walking route leads along the shore, through villages and meadows, and to Terkaple.
Boat trip, Kameleon experiences and beach
The Kameleon Terherne boat trip takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour, depending on where you disembark on the island. The duration depends on your choice of disembarkation point on the island; for planning your day, the approximate time frame is therefore the relevant factor. Lenten has been recreated true to life at the Kameleonboerderij. There, the focus is on Lenten as a recreated village. The boat trip is therefore not set to an exact duration, but remains within this time range. When planning your day, you have room to take the approximate duration of the boat trip into account alongside other walks.
At Strandje Snitsermar near Terherne, there is a grass and sandy beach as well as a separate shallow area for small children. The grass and sand are part of the beach areas; the shallow area is separated off as a distinct section.
A special place for culture and events
Tsjerke Terherne is no longer used as a church, but for special occasions such as weddings and concerts. These current uses are therefore separate from its former religious function. Alongside the stretches of water and walking trails, weddings and concerts are also examples of how Tsjerke Terherne is used. Its cultural use exists alongside the water-related activities and routes, while its former function as a church has ceased.
