Landscapes along the Neris River
Part of Neris Regional Park lies within Elektrėnai Municipality. The park stretches along both banks of the Neris through the territories of Elektrėnai and Vilnius municipalities. In the Pipiriškės Geomorphological Reserve, the protected area covers 519 hectares. There, you can take in the municipality’s landscapes and explore a complex of glacial marginal formations typical of the Dzūkija Upland.
Another view of the river valley can be enjoyed from the observation tower near Ausiutiškės. From there, you can also see the start of the Velniakampis Loop of the Neris, considered the largest loop of the 510-kilometre-long river. Near Grabijolai, an outcrop reveals exposed layers: it is about 100 metres long and about 6 metres high, and fossils can be found in its layers. These natural sites offer different experiences, from wide panoramic views to observing geological formations.
The Grabijolai Educational Trail is described as a “wild” footpath from the ethnographic street village of Grabijolų kaimas to the Alkų Oak, considered the thickest oak in Neris Regional Park. Along the way, you pass Saldus Stream, the Uolkas or Alkų Hills, the foundations of the former Zapalina Manor and Paalkių Hill. The Neris and its mythological stones are also among the stops. The “Around Elektrėnai” cycling route offers a different way to get moving: it is 14 kilometres long, takes a stated 6.5 hours, and runs 90 per cent on asphalt and 10 per cent on forest roads.
Culture and discoveries
The Elektrėnai Regional Museum has been housed in the restored Abromiškės granary since 1 January 2024. On display is a distinctive collection of sculptures by folk artist Ipolitas Užkurnys (1926–2004). Abromiškės Manor Park also has a history of its own: it was placed under state protection in 1985 and designated a natural monument in 1986. Those interested in the region’s architectural and sporting heritage can explore the history of the ice arena’s construction and numerous trophies won by Elektrėnai teams at the Ice Hockey Museum. The museum has been operating since 2014.
Advance registration is required for guided tours at the Centre for Information about the Earth’s Interior in Vievis. Elektrėnai’s interactive, modern and technology-based educational and cultural offering is aimed at Lithuanian and international users and provides information about significant and unique cultural heritage sites in the municipality. Lagoon, movement and active leisure
Guided boat trips are offered on the Elektrėnai Lagoon. The beach there is popular with windsurfers because the winds are stronger and more consistent than at other lakes; other water sports and leisure activities are popular too. The floating pontoon dock in Elektrėnai is a place to relax and enjoy nature, and stands out for its design and lighting.
In Elektrėnai, “Vaikų pasaulis” offers walking and cycling paths, two skate and scooter parks, an amphitheatre and areas with outdoor fitness equipment. It is a place to relax in nature and enjoy active leisure, with views of the Elektrėnai Lagoon as well. The Elektrėnai swimming pool has a 50-metre sports pool with eight lanes. The building also includes a sauna complex with a Finnish sauna and a steam sauna, as well as a heated pool with a cascade and underwater currents.
Other ways to stay active include the ice arena, where you can skate or watch ice hockey and figure skating competitions, and the “AWAY” wakeboard park at 13 Rungos St. in Elektrėnai. At the disc golf park, the aim is to throw a flying disc from the starting point into the basket in as few throws as possible. Each subsequent throw is made from where the previous one landed.
