Butėnai is located at the confluence of the Šventoji River and the Narantis Stream. Along the southern edge of the lands of Butėnai, the Šventoji flows for a distance of approximately six to seven kilometres.

Nature
Klyviu is a narrow, deep, rocky ravine in the landscape along the river near Butėnai. A small stream runs along its bottom. Butėnai is also home to the Kaziūnės ąžuolėlis oak.
Culture
The Butėnai burial mound cemetery, also known as Milžinų kapai, is a state-protected archaeological cultural heritage site in Butėnai.
The Butėnai manor, located on Bobakalnis, belonged to the Komaras family on 13 May 1671. Remains of old tiles, bricks, clay pans and small coins were also found on Bobakalnis.
To mark Butėnai’s 350th anniversary, a historical walk through the old village and a prayer at the cemetery were held. A bench for Augustinas, Vaižgantas’s godfather, and a memorial stone were also unveiled.
The Šv. Jono Krikštytojo wayside shrine stands by the Naruntis Stream in Butėnai and was restored at its historic location. Butėnai is also home to an ethnographic theatre.
Barono Vila offers its guests a boat, a canoe and recreational fishing. It also serves traditional north-eastern Lithuanian dishes, with Baron’s pilau as a speciality.
