Joniškis is a city in northern Lithuania and the seat of Joniškis District Municipality.
Joniškis was founded at the beginning of the 16th century; the city was first mentioned in historical records on 23 February 1536. This clearly dated history is particularly interesting for travellers who wish to learn about a place’s cultural background in addition to enjoying their stay.
The city developed around a wooden church after a new parish was established in 1536. Joniškis is also home to the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as well as the White and Red Synagogues.
