Manor park and architecture
Many historical features have been preserved or restored in the manor park. These include the central gates with sections of fencing and garden gates with remnants of a stone wall. A statue of the Roman goddess of hunting, Diana, stands on an island in the pond. Other features include a restored sundial, a vase on a pedestal, a circular viewing platform with a balustrade and a staircase with vases. A statue of the Virgin Mary, the “Laisvės angelas” and small footbridges are also among the park’s features.
The architectural ensemble also includes a Classicist gate serving as the main entrance to the park and the Neo-Renaissance manor villa “Genovaitė”, built in 1880. A pedestrian viaduct over the road connects the park to the churchyard of St James the Greater Church.
History in the townscape
Since 2005, the Švėkšna exhibition has been housed in new rooms in the Švėkšna “Saulės” Gymnasium building. Four rooms are devoted to ethnography, archaeology, manor history and local history. Exhibits may change; if necessary, check with the museum for current visiting arrangements.
The “Štetlo paieškos Švėkšnoje” mosaic trail runs past artistic mosaics set into the pavements. The images offer insights into local history, the Jewish community and local personalities. Here, history is encountered not only in exhibition rooms, but also in the streetscape.
Another educational activity is the augmented 3D reality tour in the Švėkšna synagogue. Participants use a smart device to scan their surroundings and view the resulting augmented-reality images. Ask the museum about the tour’s current availability and booking.
Crafts, market and flavours
The Švėkšna Centre for Traditional Crafts offers educational activities in traditional crafts. These include weaving a straw garden ornament or a straw decoration. Advance booking is required for these activities.
The “Paprūsės skoniai” tasting includes a soup, kastinys and homemade bread kvass. Ask the Švėkšna Centre for Traditional Crafts whether the tasting is held and when.
A paved market square lies in the centre of Švėkšna, with a market held on Thursdays. If you would like to plan your stay around it, check the date before making plans.

The churchyard of St James the Greater Church in the town centre is recommended as the starting point for the “Grafų Pliaterių takais” cycling route. The churchyard is therefore a specific landmark for this cycling route; the viaduct, by contrast, describes the connection between the churchyard and the park.
